1790-1829 English Clarke & Son London Percussion .577 Regulation Calibre Traveling Pistol With Brass Fittings Period Converted From Flintlock With Octagonal Barrel & Ram Rod. Sn 21393:18 - 21393:18
Richard Clarke was an English London based gun retailer recorded at 62 Cheapside 1790-96, he is then recorded as Richard Clarke & Son Goldsmith & Gun Retailer at the same address 1797-1829 (see page 149 of Brown’s book British Gunmakers Vol.1). This is an excellent percussion pistol by Clarke & Son London period converted from flintlock. It is 13 ½” overall with a 8” octagonal steel sighted barrel. The barrels’ smooth bore has just staining & residue consistent with age and use and has black powder proofs. The top barrel flat is faintly signed ‘London’. It has a flat stepped action plate with Dolphin hammer. The action plate is signed ‘Clarke & Son’ (most likely Richard). It has a walnut full stock with chequered grip panels & plain rounded butt. It's has brass fittings including trigger guard with extended tang and Pineapple finial. It is complete with original ebonised wood ramrod with polished horn end cap. It's action works crisply. Isaac Barber was an English Nottinghamshire based gun smith recorded at Market Place, Newark 1773-1823 (see page 164 of Brown’s book British Gunmakers Vol.2). This is an excellent Flintlock Pistol by Barber Newark. It is 14 ¼” overall with a 9” octagonal steel sighted barrel. The barrels’ smooth bore has just light staining consistent with age and use and has black powder proofs. The top barrel flat is faintly signed ‘Barber Newark’. It has a flat stepped lock with cock. The lock plate is crisply signed ‘Barber’ (most likely Isaac). It has a walnut full stock with plain rounded butt. It's has fancy steel fittings including trigger guard with extended tang, clamshell on the trigger guard and Pineapple finial. It is complete with original ebonised wood ramrod with polished horn end cap and steel worm. It's action works crisply. The price includes UK delivery. This is a very good Flintlock Holster Pistol made C1800. It is 14" overall with an 8 ¾” round steel barrel. The barrels’ smooth bore has just light staining consistent with age and use and has English black powder proofs. It has a flat stepped lock with cock fitted with flint. The lock plate is crisply signed ‘Richards’ (there were several gunmakers working in both London and the Provinces during the flintlock era). It has a walnut full stock with plain rounded butt. British Naval Officer’s Private Purchase R. Watkins (London C1710-1740) Long Sea Service Pattern .577” Regulation Calibre, Flintlock Pistol With Belt Bar & Brass Fittings Including Cudgel Butt. Sn 21393:15 - 21393:15
During the 18th century the British Royal Navy began standardising their Naval small arms. One such weapon was the Sea Service flintlock pistol. These weapons were used by the British Royal Navy throughout the Wars with neighbouring France 1750- 1815 and saw service at the famous Naval Battle of Trafalgar 21st October 1805. This original British Naval Officer’s Private Purchase Long Sea Service Pistol is in excellent condition. It is 20 ¼” long with a 12 ¾” smooth bore barrel which is Regulation .577" calibre. The barrel’s bore has staining & residue consistent with age & use. The barrel is crisply stamped with black powder proof marks. The lock plate is signed ‘R. Watkins’ (recorded as working in London C1710-1740, a maker of flintlock pistols and muskets, see page 104 of English, Irish & Scottish Firearms Makers by Carey). The all original full wood stock has just light bumps and bruises to be expected with age. It has regulation type brass furniture including cudgel butt. The pistol has its original wood ram rod with brass end cap. The lock functions crisply. This original Georgian, Tower, Long Sea Service Pistol is in excellent condition. It is 19 ½” long with a 12” smooth bore barrel which is Regulation .577" calibre. The barrel’s bore is clean. The barrel is crisply stamped with black powder proof marks and the pistol has several crown ordnance inspection marks. The all original full wood stock has just light bumps and bruises to be expected with age and has Board Of ordnance WD arrow mark and other inspection marks (illustrated). It has regulation brass furniture including cudgel butt. The pistol has its original wood ram rod with brass end cap which also has ordnance inspection ‘GR’ mark. The lock is crisply marked 'Tower' (Enfield) & ‘Crown GR’ (George Rex) together with small ordnance mark. All metal work is excellent and undamaged. The cock is fitted with flint. SOLD SOLD (LAY-AWAY 05/02) British East India Company, 1815 Dated Flintlock .750 Musket Calibre Muzzle Loading Percussion Infantry Musket. Sn - 21393:13
This is a 1815 dated British East India Company Flintlock .75” infantry musket. The musket has a 39 inch smooth bored barrel with London proof marks. The barrel is clean and has staining consistent with use. The musket has all original woodwork with the correct brass scroll trigger guard, two rammer pipes and the correct and original ramrod. The musket is fitted with the correct 2 sling swivels. The lock plate is stamped with the date, 1815 and the EIC’s Rampant Lion trademark with a single border. The musket measures 55 inches in length with a 39 inch barrel the bore having just light staining consistent with age. The cocking and firing actions work crisply. The price includes UK delivery.
