Nazi M98 Dress Bayonet By A Scarce Maker Gustav Spitzer, Solingen & Scabbard. BAYO 80 - BAYO 80 An early Nazi M98 dress bayonet by a Scarce maker, Gustav Spitzer and scabbard. The dress sidearm for military and civilian uniformed formations was designated the M98 Dress Bayonet. This bayonet represented a stylised form of the S. 84/98 bayonet purchased by the individual for wear with the walkout dress uniform and was worn by the mainly non-commissioned officers and enlisted personnel. This dress bayonet has a rifle mortise and push button release. It retains the red felt in the mortise slot. This is the long version with a 9 ¾“ blade. It has "C Gustav Spitzer Solingen" stamped into the ricasso. The polished steel blade is in excellent condition. The grips are chequered and secured with two rivets. British, WW1 Era, General Service Buff Leather Bayonet Frog For The P 1907 Bayonet. - L 265 This is a buff leather bayonet frog adapted to take the P 1907 bayonet and was introduced in 1914 as a simpler way of altering General Service buff leather bayonet frogs to accept the P 1907 bayonet. The frogs were not altered but a leather piece was inserted and secured with 2 rivets. This modification caused the P 1907 bayonets to move further away and clear the leather frog. Italian WW2 Era, Model 1891 Carcano Leather Bayonet Frog. - L 262 This is an original WW2 era Italian black leather bayonet frog for the Model 1891 knife bayonet fitted to the Model 1891 Mannlicher-Carcano service rifle. Italian WW2 Era, RARE, Model Italian Tropical Model 1870 Sword Bayonet Webbing and Leather Bayonet Frog. - L 263 This is a rare Italian leather and canvas bayonet frog for the Model 1870 sword bayonet. The leather part of the frog is a mid-tan in colour and is in excellent condition with no rips or tears. The stitching is complete and in good order. The leather frog is attached to a buff webbing strap by stitching and forms a belt loop. The frog measures 10 inches in length. At the rear of the frog is marked in old worn ink REGALBUTO SICILY 1943. The battle of Regalbuto was part of Operation Hardgate and began on the 29th of July. This was a pincer manoeuvre to capture Adrano and was in full swing on August 1, 1943. On one pincer was the 1st Canadian Division at Regalbuto and the other was the 78th Division, supplemented with the 3rd Canadian Brigade. The Germans, particularly the Panzer-Division Hermann Göring, were told to hold the line, but had been bombed continually by the RCAF flying out of Tunisia. Once again, the Panzer-Division Hermann Göring were matched against the Canadians in Regalbuto. Regalbuto was captured on August 2, 1943. Inter War, 1921 Dated 1907 Pattern, Australian, Lithgow, Bayonet, Double Seamed Leather Scabbard & 1908 Pattern Webbing Frog. ED 2266 - ED 2266 An excellent Australian, Inter World War dated example of the Pattern 1907 bayonet for the SMLE rifle complete with scabbard & frog. The ricasso of the bayonet is stamped by the manufacturer ' Lithgow', '1907 Within Shield' (Pattern) and '2 21' (Feb 1921). The reverse is stamped with 'A' within Star inspection marks. The blade is in superb clean condition and it's wood grips are undamaged and perfectly secure. The pommel is stamped ' A76149'. It is complete with a nice original steel mounted double seamed brown leather Scabbard. All stitching of the scabbard is intact. The rear of the scabbard has some service wear to the surface of the body. The leather is stamped with faint lettering most likely 'Mangrovite' (Mangrovite Belting Ltd, Australia). British WWI Improvised Trench Knuckle Duster/Fighting Knife Made from the ‘07’ Pattern Bayonet & Scabbard. 20012:2. - 20012:2 With the exception of the German Nahkampfmesser or (close combat knife), most early trench knives were fabricated by hand by individual soldiers or blacksmiths for the purpose of silently killing sentries and other soldiers during trench raids. These early "trench knives" were often shortened and sharpened Army-issue bayonets. One type of stabbing weapon, the French Nail, was made by cutting and pointing the steel stakes used to support the barbed wire protecting trenches. Some historians say that some trench knives models were inspired by the Bowie knife. Soon afterwards, these fabricated trench knives were used in defensive close-quarters trench warfare, and such fighting soon revealed limitations in existing designs. This unique example has been fashioned from the ‘07’ pattern bayonet. The push button release has been removed and now holds the top of the ‘knuckle duster’ hand guard. The single edged fullered blade now measures 19 ¾ cm (32 ½ cm overall). The blade retains 75% of its original paint. The wooden grips are in very good condition. The scabbard has been expertly shortened to accommodate the blade. The leather and stitching are in excellent condition and the metalwork still retains some of its original paint.
