It lists all known recipients of the 1914 star including auxiliary units., such as armoured trains and Mrs Stobarts Hospital Unit. Next is a copy of ‘Ribbons & Medals’ by H. Taprell Dorling covering British Commonwealth & Foreign awards. The next book is ‘British Gallantry Awards’ by P.E.Abbot & J.M.A Tamplin which covers all British and Commonwealth, military and civilian gallantry awards. The next book is ‘British & Irish campaign medals’, an all colour introduction to medals from 1899 to present. Finally are two shire books which cover ‘British campaign medals 1914 – 2005’ & ‘The Victoria cross’ both of which are by Peter Duckers the acknowledged expert and author of many articles & books. All of these books are profusely illustrated in black & white and have a scholarly text. Set of 4 Books Relating to Normandy 1944 Onwards. BO 368. - BO 368
The first book is an original copy of the story of 79th Armoured Division from October 1942- June 1945 which was privately printed in Hamburg 1945. It is s lavishly illustrated detailed account of the part played in N.W. Europe. They were often called ‘Hobarts Funny’s’ after Major General Sir Percy Hobart whose brainchild it was. They used adapted tanks which could float, had chains for clearing mines and could lay bridges etc. This is a comprehensive and fully illustrated account of the 79th war. The next book is a paperback toll call of all serving members of the 5th Armoured Engineer Regiment from D Day to V.E Day. It includes all K.I.A (killed in action) rank name and place, honours and awards, also members still serving on disbandment. The third book is an Osprey title ‘Normandy 1944’ and the fourth is ‘101st Airborne’ ‘The Screaming Eagles at Normandy’ which is a profusely illustrated account of this legendary American regiment.
