Staffordshire Police Coxcomb Helmet. 21460. - 21460
A combined force covering Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent, called Staffordshire County and Stoke-on-Trent Constabulary, was established on 1 January 1968, as a merger of the Staffordshire County Police and Stoke-on-Trent City Police. This force lost areas to the new West Midlands Police in 1974 under the Local Government Act 1972 and adopted a shorter name. This Nottingham Police “Comb Top” Helmet: The front Helmet plate has a "Queen's Crown" to top, over a starburst, with STAFFORDSHIRE POLICE in the circle. In the centre is the golden rope emblem. The helmet interior is rigged with its Riot Gear liner with web chin strap, retaining its Riot Chin "Cup." The Helmet is also fitted with its everyday patent leather chin strap as well. The original label is still present ‘Custodian Helmet SS. 5240’. The helmet is size 59. The furniture is intact and attached and the helmet is in excellent condition. Hampshire Constabulary Coxcomb Police Helmet. 21459. - 21459
The custodian helmet is the headgear traditionally worn by male police constables and sergeants while on foot patrol in England and Wales. This ‘Comb Top’ Helmet: The front Helmet plate has a "Queen's Crown" to top, over a rose, with HAMPSHIRE on the scroll all within a wreath. The helmet interior is rigged with its liner with web riot chin strap. (The first fully constituted police force formed in Hampshire was the Winchester City Police, founded in 1832. The Hampshire County Constabulary was established seven years later in December 1839 as a result of the passing of the County Police Act that year. Initially the force had a chief constable and two superintendents: one was based in Winchester, and the second based on the Isle of Wight (then part of Hampshire).The Helmet is also fitted with its everyday patent leather chin strap as well. The original owner of the hat is hand written on the inside and strap. The helmet is approximately size 58. The furniture is intact and attached and the helmet is in excellent condition. Nottinghamshire Constabulary Police Officers Comb Top Helmet. 21458. - 21458
Nottinghamshire Constabulary was established in 1840. The following year it absorbed Retford Borough Police. In 1947, it absorbed Newark-on-Trent Borough Police. In 1968 it amalgamated with Nottingham City Police to form Nottinghamshire Combined Constabulary. On 1 April 1974, it was reconstituted as Nottinghamshire Police under the Local Government Act 1972, but retained the name Nottinghamshire Constabulary on all signage, uniform and vehicles until the early 21st century. Nottingham Police “Comb Top” Helmet: The front Helmet plate has a "Queen's Crown" to top, over a starburst, with NOTTINGHAMSHIRE CONSTABULARY in the circle. In the centre is the E II R monogram of Queen Elizabeth II, the reigning Queen of the United Kingdom at the time. The helmet interior is rigged with its Riot Gear liner with web chin strap, retaining its Riot Chin "Cup." The Helmet is also fitted with its everyday patent leather chin strap as well. The original stamp is still present ‘Christy Guardian’. The helmet is approximately size 58. The furniture is intact and attached and the helmet is in excellent condition. 1830-1837 British William IV Hand Painted Ebonised Wood Police Constabulary Tip Staff / Truncheon With Weighted Lead Cudgel Cap. Sn 21387 - 21387
The earliest record of the Tipstaff (Warrant Stick) was in the 14th century. The name derives from the early origins of Policing when Warranted Officers would apprehend a criminal with the help if necessary of a tipped staff. The staff would be made of wood or metal and were not only a means of self defence but would also bear symbols of their authority. Modern Police Truncheons originated from these Tipstaffs. This is an original large William IV Tipstaff / Truncheon (William IV was King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland and King of Hanover from 26 June 1830 until his death in 1837). The ebonised wood staff measures 18” overall length. The wood has hand painted red bands in the mid section and colourful Royal crown on one side of the cylindrical top section which is period fitted with a heavy lead sheet cudgel cap. The lead has indistinct rubbed gold paint decoration, the only readable feature of which is a part letter ‘W’ no doubt for King William. It has a baluster shaped handle section with turned lines to assist grip. The shaft is fitted with thin leather wrist cord. The price includes UK delivery. Sn 21387

Large Victorian Police/ Magistrates Tip Staff Decorated To Fife (FI), Scotland With Queens Crown VR. Sn 11127. - 11127
The tip staff is one of the earliest forms of Police authority, carried by the early Constables/ Watchmen and Magistrates as signs of their authority and right to enforce law. This original Victorian Police/ Magistrate’s Staff is made from heavy wood painted black and varnished. The decoration at the top of the staff has The Queen’s Crown with ‘VR’ monogram (Victoria Regina) together with ‘FI’ (Fife, Scotland) and number ‘45’. All of the staff’s original Red, Gold and Black colouring retain their vivid colour. The cylinder shaped staff measures 26 ½” in length with a diameter of 1 ¼”. The staff is holed for lanyard. WW1 1914 – 1919 Dated, Stockport County Special Constable’s Polychrome Decorated Lignum Vitae Tropical Hardwood Truncheon. Sn 20040. - 20040
In the Autumn of 1856 as a result of the County and Borough Police Act 1856. Cheshire Justices were obliged to establish a paid Police Force for the whole of each County area including Stockport Borough. In 1870 Stockport Borough established its own Constabulary. The Borough later became part of the Cheshire Constabulary and now forms part of the Greater Manchester Policing area. This is an original WW1 Lignum Vitae Tropical Hardwood Stockport Special Constabule’s Truncheon. It is 15 ½” length and has highly coloured polychrome decoration featuring The Kings Crown with Royal Cypher ‘GR’ (George Rex) together with Stockport Coat of Arms. Beneath the arms is 'Special Constable' in gold lettering with '1914-1919’ date. The decoration has light areas of rubbing consistent with age and storage. It has a deep grooved grip with rounded end and recess for wrist strap. This is an excellent truncheon to a British Police to a Special Constable who served throughout WW1 and beyond.
