Cambridge University Rifle Volunteers Other Ranks White Metal Helmet Plate. ( Sn 7529 ) - 7529 This is a Victorian Other Ranks white metal helmet plate. Of standard design and construction it is an 8 pointed star, 4 inches wide and 5 inches long, with Victoria Crown over the top point. It has the separate Cambridge University Arms in the centre. The rear has its original 3 fixing lugs. The Cambridge University Rifle Volunteers were formed in 1803 when there were fears of an invasion by the French. It was 'formally' raised in 1860 and grew to 500 troops by the time of the Boer War. A detachment was sent to South Africa to augment the SUFFOLK REGIMENT. It was the only university to see active service in that conflict. This earned them the battle honour ' SOUTH AFRICA 1900-01' The C.U.R.V. became the ' Cambridge Univesity Officer Training Corps' in 1908 and is now a part of the U.K. Territorial Army. Original Victorian Suffolk Regiment Officer's White Metal Hemet Plate. ( Sn 7531 ) - 7531 This is an original Victorian Suffolk Regiment Officer's white metal Helmet Plate. It is 4 inches across with an 8 pointed star surmounted with a Victoria Crown. The centre is a caslte on black velvet surrounded by a 'garter' and motto ' Honi Soit Qui Mal y Pense' and laurel wreath. Below this is a scroll which reads ' THE SUFFOLK REGIMENT' It has a good clean back with the original 3 post fixing. This is a very attractive, original plate in excellent condition. Original Victorian Suffolk Regiment Officer's waist Belt Clasp by Hobson & Sons. ( Sn 7532) - 7532 This is an original Victorian Suffolk Regiment Officer's white metal waist belt clasp. It is in excellent condition with the correct centre with a Castle and the motto,' Montis insignia Calpe'. The outer ring reads ' THE SUFFOLK REGIMENT' with foliate / scroll decoration on each belt loop. The rear of the clasp is correctly stamped with the maker's details ' HOBSON & SONS LEXINGTON ST LONDON'. This is a good quality white metal clasp to a fine regiment. The price includes UK delivery. 58th Foot, Northamptonshire Regiment, Other Ranks, Glengarry Badge. Sn 7030 : 15. - 7030 : 15 This is an excellent original 58th Foot, Northamptonshire Regiment, Other Ranks, Glengarry badge. ( see page 519 of Kipling & King). The circular badge is surmounted with 'Northamptonshire Regt Castle Arms' and has a bottom ornate drop point feature. The centre of the badge is voided with inset number '58' (58th Foot) encircled by the Northamptonshire Regimental motto. The rear of the badge is complete with correct 2 'pin posts'.
