An Original German WW1 Demag Combination Trench Knife-Bayonet. These knife Bayonets were popular private purchase weapons for German infantry men fighting in the trenches of the Western Front, as they provided a much handier and more useful multipurpose tool than that standard Mauser M-1898 bayonet. WWII German Trench Knife and Scabbard. ED 2616. - ED 2616
Trench knives came into their own as conflict had become bogged down, with the combatants sheltering in deep trenches, leading to attacks that end up with fast and furious hand to hand fighting. On all sides raiding parties are formed in order to bring back prisoners for intelligence purposes, or to destroy dugouts and strongholds. See ‘German Combat Knives’ by Christian Mery, page 30 for similar version. The blade measuring 14 ½ cm (25 ¾ cm overall) has a single edge *appears to have been re sharpened. The wooden grooved grips are held with two pins above small quillon. The grips are in very good condition. The steel scabbard retains 75% of its original paint and would have come with leather belt hoop held by two studs to the rear *missing. A nice collector’s item. The price includes UK delivery. WWI German Officers ‘Private Purchase’ Trench Dagger and Sheath by H.Böker & Co. 19357. - 19357
Indeed these weapons were used by hunters and lumberjacks, and it was quite natural that these men took their knives with them to war. In hand to hand trench fighting, after the first months of the war, these weapons gave them a clear advantage. This dagger was made by H.Böker & Co- Solingen. The blade is 120mm in length (250mm overall) and has the ‘H.Böker & Co- Solingen’ and chestnut tree symbol engraved to the cheek. Böker Tree Brand has been producing cutlery for well over 145 years. In 1869, Heinrich Böker founded Böker & Company in Solingen, Germany. Envisioning an easily recognizable symbol to identify their products, Heinrich remembered a giant chestnut tree that shaded their original factory. The blade is showing a nice age related patina. There is a tab closed by a press stud sewn to the body of the sheath and a strap with a buckle running through the belt loop. All of the stitching and studs are undamaged. A 10cm deer antler grip below silver steel pommel with ‘BSJ’ engraved and above a silver one sided quillon *slight movement between the blade and grip*. A collectors piece worthy of further investigation. Price includes UK postage. 19357.
