Post 1952 Royal Ulster Constabulary (R.U.C.) Female Police Officer’s Uniform Service Cap By Compton Sons & Webb Ltd London With Blackened Brass Queen’s Crown R.U.C. Badge. POL 401 - POL 401 Formed in 1922, the uniform and insignia of the R.U.C. remained essentially the same as their predecessors the R.I.C. (Royal Irish Constabulary). From the beginning it had a dual role, unique among United Kingdom police forces, of providing a normal law enforcement police service while protecting Northern Ireland from the terrorist activities of outlawed groups. The R.U.C. was superseded by the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) in 2001. This is an excellent original Post 1952 R.U.C. female Police officer’s cap. Made of dark green serge material, it is clean and undamaged. It has the correct press stud side flaps, patent leather brim and chin strap with buckles. The front of the cap is mounted with its original blackened brass R.U.C Queen’s Crown cap badge correctly backed by red felt patch. The cloth lining with cloth sweatband is undamaged and has just light service wear. The lining is ink stamped by the manufacturer ‘J. Compton Sons & Webb Ltd London’ together with size ‘6 7/8’. Victorian Irish Police Bog Oak Wooden Truncheon/ Staff With Hand Carved Shamrocks & Harp With Wrist Cord. Sn 16386. - 16386 Bog Oak, much like Brown Oak, is not a specific species, but is rather a term that designates oak that has been buried in a peat bog, sometimes for several hundreds of years. The anaerobic conditions of the bog protect the wood from decay, while the acidic water contains tannins, which stain the wood a dark brown to almost black. This is an excellent Victorian Irish Police Hand Carved Bog Oak Wooden Truncheon/ Staff. This heavy truncheon measures 13 ¾” overall. For its whole length and around its circumference the staff is deeply hand carved with foliate decoration, Shamrocks and Harp designs. The grip section which is holed for wrist cord and fitted with old frayed shoelace wrist cord. It has a hand carved diamond shaped pattern to assist grip.
