The history of the Metropolitan Police Service is long and complex, with many different events taking place between its inception in 1829 to the present day. This is a very good, male Constable's / Sergeant's helmet of the Metropolitan Police. It has a Navy blue body, chromed rose boss and a Metropolitan Police Queen’s Crown (QE II) white metal helmet plate with blue enamel central border. 1968 - 1974 British Manchester & Salford Police Male Constable's/ Sergeant's Blue Serge Helmet By Christy’s London With Helmet Night Plate. POL 392 - POL 392
Manchester and Salford Police was a police force in England from 1 June 1968 to 1 April 1974. It was created as a merger of the Manchester City Police and Salford City Police and covered the adjacent county boroughs of Manchester and Salford. It was amalgamated with parts of the Lancashire Constabulary and Cheshire Constabulary under the Local Government Act 1972 to form Greater Manchester Police. This is a very good, male Constable's/ Sergeant's Helmet of Manchester & Salford Police. It has a blue serge body, rigid combe to provide greater protection during public disorder with blackened combe plate & Manchester & Salford Police Queen’s Crown (QE II) blackened metal helmet night plate. The inside has leather sweat band with string adjustment cord and chinstrap. The lining has a paper manufacturer’s label ink stamp ‘7’ (size). Post 1974 British Avon & Somerset Constabulary Male Constable's/ Sergeant's Blue Serge ‘6 Panel’ Police Helmet With Helmet Plate. POL 391 - POL 391
The Avon & Somerset Constabulary was created on 1st April 1974 from a merger of the Bristol City Police, the Somerset & Bath Constabulary and the Staple Hill Division of Gloucestershire Constabulary. This is a very good, male Constable's/ Sergeant's Helmet of the Avon & Somerset Constabulary . It is likely that this is an old Bristol helmet re-badged on the formation of the Avon & Somerset Constabulary as this helmet follows the style of helmets used by Bristol and apparently this practice was a common occurrence. It has a Navy blue 6 panel body, chromed rose boss & Avon & Somerset Constabulary Queen’s Crown (QE II) white metal helmet plate. Formed on 1st April 1974 Greater Manchester Police (GMP) is the Police Force responsible for law enforcement within the metropolitan county of Greater Manchester in North West England. This is a near mint, male Constable's/ Sergeant's Helmet of GMP. It has a blue serge body, rigid combe to provide greater protection during public disorder with combe plate & GMP Police Queen’s Crown (QE II) white metal helmet plate. The inside has leather sweat band with string adjustment cord and chinstrap. The sweatband is impressed with Christy’s London manufacturer’s mark & ink stamp ‘7 1/8’ (size). Pre 1952 Scottish Constabulary ACPOS (Association Of Chief Police Officers Scotland) Chief Constables, Deputy Chief Constables & Assistant Chief Constables Uniform Police Cap By Christy’s London With ACPOS Kings Crown Bullion Thistle Cap Badge. Sn 12146 - 12146
The Association of Chief Police Officers in Scotland (ACPOS) ceased to operate on April 1, 2013 when the eight forces and the Scottish Crime and Drug Enforcement Agency merged to form a single service known as Police Scotland. ACPOS was the collective organisation of Chief Constables, Deputy Chief Constables and Assistant Chief Constables from the eight Police Forces in Scotland. The Scottish Constabulary crest was designed by Mr Cairns, Art Master at Dumfries Academy in the early 1930s at the request of the Chief Constables' (Scotland) Club to be a badge to be identifiable with the Scottish Police Service. This is an original Scottish Constabulary ACPOS Senior Police Officer’s Cap. The cap has the ACPOS embroidered bullion Scottish Thistle cap badge topped with King’s Crown indicating manufacture prior to 1952 with banner and latin motto ‘Semper Vigilo’ (Always Vigilant). The badge is illustrated in image 2. The hat has a black plastic chin strap held by two black buttons to the sides and patent leather peak with bullion braid. The braid has some service wear. The cap’s crown, body and chequered headband are in excellent undamaged condition with no mothing. The inside of the cap has a clean brown leather sweat band with number ‘189’ handwritten in ink and crisp Christy’s of London impressed stamp highlighted in gold (illustrated inset in image 2). The clean red silk head lining also has a crisp Christy’s ink stamp in gold. This is an excellent original Police cap. The price includes UK delivery. Sn 12146

A Mid-Anglian Constabulary Custodian Helmet, size 7. It has a chrome comb and chrome Queens Crown helmet plate. There is a chrome band with rosettes and a single vent either side. Inside it has a leather sweat band which is stamped with "7" (size 7) and an adjusting cord. It has a handwritten name "P.S. D16 Barrett" and a makers stamp of 'Christy's London'. This is a good condition, Kings Crown (Pre 1953) Kent Constabulary Police Constable's/Sergeant's 2 panel helmet with a WW2 King's Crown night helmet plate and leather chin strap, size 6 7/8". It has a perfect exterior finish with correct 2 panel construction and ornate black painted vented rose top mount and headband with side rosettes. The rose and headband have the original blacking. It is fitted with it's original blackened two piece King's Crown plate with central silvered Kent crest. Inside it is in very good condition. This is a very good original, WW2, painted steel Police Inspector's 'Tommy' helmet. The helmet is painted blue and has its original Stenciled paint lettering 'POLICE' and rank Insignia bands. The inner rim of the helmet is stamped with what appears to be a number ‘7’. It has its original black oil cloth liner and sprung webbing chinstrap all of which are completely intact. WW1 Metropolitan Special Constabulary Police Cap With Cap Badge to J. Compton Along with Metropolitan Special Constabulary 1914 Long Service Medal. POL 352 - POL 352
An original WW1 Metropolitan Special Constabulary Police Cap with cap badge to J. Compton along with a brass Metropolitan Special Constabulary 1914 Long Service Medal. The Metropolitan Special Constabulary was an unpaid force supporting full time Policemen in London during WW1. The hat has a blackened night badge to Metropolitan Special Constabulary with wearers loops on the reverse, held in place with a brass pin. The hat has a black leather hat band/chin strap held by two black buttons to the sides. The peak is black. The cap top and sides are in good undamaged condition. The inside of the cap has a brown leather sweat band with "Percy H. Lightfoot &" handwritten in ink inside. The top lining also has a white manufacturers stamp with "J. Compton Sons & Webb Ltd 7" inside. This is an excellent original cap. Along with the cap is a brass "Metropolitan Special Constabulary" Long Service Medal along with wearers bar.
