Early 1800’s English Thomas Proudman Birmingham Ladies Or Youth Size Flintock 18 Bore Single Barrel Muzzle Loading Sporting Shotgun. Sn 20971 - 20971
Thomas Proudman was an English Birmingham based Gunmaker recorded as working at Steelhouse Lane C1820-21, 26 Russell Street 1822-27, Aston Road 1828-37 and 99 Dartmouth Street 1838-50 (see page 312 of British Gunmakers Vol 2 by Brown). This is an antique muzzle loading 18 Bore Single Barrel Muzzle Loading Percussion Sporting Shotgun by Proudman. It has a 27 ½” browned steel barrel and measures a short 44” overall making it ideal for ladies or youth use. The muzzle has a brass blade foresight. The barrel's smooth bore has staining & residue consistent with age and use. The trigger guard has extended tang with Pineapple finial. The lock plate has partially visible makers name ‘T. Proudman’. The cock is fitted with flint. The wrist of the stock has chequered panels. The stock has a brass fore end block & is fitted with a steel butt plate. The wood is all original with just light bumps and bruises to be expected. The gun has an ebonised wood ram rod with steel end cap and steel worm tip. **VERY ORNATE SILVER WRAPPED WITH CORAL & POLISHED ANTIQUE IVORY DECORATION**C1800 16 Bore Balkan / Ottoman Rat Tail Butt Flintlock Pistol. Sn 21393:8 - 21393:8
This is a superb ornate Balkans / Ottoman flintlock pistol made C1800. It is 20 ¼” overall length. The 11” Cannon barrel’s smooth bore has staining and residue consistent with age and use. Sections of the iron barrel and all of the stock are tightly wrapped in silver sheet and has ornate tooled foliate & hammered decoration. The stock and barrel towards the muzzle are intricately decorated with silver studs, polished antique ivory & coral lozenges including the rat tail butt. The pistol has its original decorative forming part of the frame, fixed in place faux silver ram rod end piece. The lock plate and cock have quality tooled decoration. The action cocks and dry fires. **RARE**C1802 Scottish William Morris Perth 16 Bore, Side By Side Double Barrelled Muzzle Loading Flintlock Shotgun. A 1102 - A 1102
William Morris was a Scottish gunmaker recorded as working in Perth in 1802 (see page 291 of British Gunmakers Vol.2 by Brown). This is a double barrel flintlock shotgun by William Morris of Perth. It has Walnut furniture with finely chequered wrist and fore stock. The action, steel butt plate tang and trigger guard with extended tang and pineapple finial have foliate engraved decoration. The shotgun has double 28 ¼”, 16 bore steel barrels with flat barrel rib. The smooth bores have light staining and residue consistent with age and use. It has double Swan neck hammers & double triggers (the right hammer is loosely fitted but functions as it should). The lock plates and barrel rib are signed by the maker (illustrated). It is complete with brass capped wood ram rod which has a worm tip. The cocking & firing actions of the weapon work crisply. Double barrel flintlock shotguns are increasingly hard to find. 1766-1803 Thomas Divine Dublin 16 Bore Flintlock Traveling Pistol With Browned 2 Stage Barrel & 1843-1846 WI 1314 (County Wicklow) Irish Registration Mark. Sn 20454 - 20454
This is an excellent Irish flintlock traveling pistol. It measures 15 ½” overall and has a browned 10 ¼” 2 stage barrel with clean smooth bore which is fitted with small blade fore sight. The rear sight consists of a shallow groove in the top of the action tang. The top of the barrel has 'Dublin' cartouche and another indistinct cartouche. The barrel also has a 1843-1846 ‘WI 1314’ (County Wicklow) Irish Registration Mark (the Irish Registration Act was passed in 1843 and lasted only a short while, until August 1846. There were 39 districts (34 counties, 4 boroughs and Dublin City) each with its own two letter prefix followed by a number. Wicklow’s prefix was WI). It has a steel cock, brass trigger guard with extended tang and Pineapple finial,brass butt with extended tang & brass ram rod mounts. The brass has foliate decoration. The steel lock plate is crisply signed 'Divine' within banner (most likely Thomas Divine / Devine Dublin 1766-1803) and has foliate decoration. The all original dark walnut full stock has knocks bumps and bruises to be expected with age and use. The stock is mounted with silver plated brass shield which has a stylised monogram, most likely that of the original period owner. The pistol is complete with iron ramrod. Its action works crisply. **MINT BORE**C1830 English Foxall Percussion 15 Bore Traveling Pistol With Octagonal Barrel. Sn 22536 - 22536
This is an original English form percussion pistol made C1830. It is 11 ½” overall with a 6 ¼” octagonal steel barrel with brass bead fore sight. The barrels’ smooth bore is near mint clean and bright. The top barrel flat is faintly signed with indistinct initials and ‘Foxall Maker’ (there were several English provincial gunmakers named Foxhall in the flintlock / percussion era, we could not find any by that name working in London. Unfortunately the initials of the maker are unreadable which may assist identification of the maker) . It’s blued action plate and Dolphin hammer have foliate engraved decoration. It has a walnut full stock with no provision for ram rod and chequered grip panels. The stock has German silver stock mounts, roundel at the action and inlaid void shield. It has steel fittings including trigger guard with extended tang and acanthus bud finial. It's action works correctly. The price for this pistol worthy of further research to identify which of the Foxall gun smiths made this piece includes UK delivery. C1840’s Victorian English R. Lowe London 12 Bore, Double Barrelled Muzzle Loading Percussion Sporting Shotgun With Snake Head Hammers. A 1126 - A 1126
This is an antique double barrel muzzle loading shotgun by Lowe London. It has undamaged Walnut furniture with finely chequered wrist panels & void inlaid white metal escutcheon. The shotgun with double 33” steel barrels, has double snake head form hammers with scale decoration & double triggers. The barrel rib has gilt 'v' block sight and bead fore sight. The cocking and firing actions are crisp It measures 49 ¾” overall. The barrels are 12 bore. The bores have staining & residue consistent with age & use. The action and hammers have deep cut tooled foliate engraved decoration. Each action plate are faintly signed by the maker or retailer within banners which looks like ‘R. Lowe London’ (unknown). Its polished steel trigger guard has an extended tang & finial. It is complete with its brass capped wood ram rod. The price includes UK delivery.
