**RARE**ARAB CAPTURED & MODIFIED FRENCH FORIEGN LEGION**Manufacture d'Armes de Saint-Étienne Or Tulle Arsenal Fusil Gras M80 Model 1874 (74/80) 11mm Calibre Bolt Action Carbine. Sn 23662 - 23662 In 1874 France adopted a single shot rifle, this single shot rifle was based on the French 1866 Chassepot Needle Rifle. These weapons designated Gras M80 Model 1874 (Fusil Gras M80 Modèle 1874) and the rare carbine variant were the main long arm issue for the French Military and were used for front line service until 1886, when a new rifle, the 1886 Lebel was designed. The Gras continued to be issued to French troops throughout WW1. This is a rare Gras 74/80 Carbine period North African arab captured most likely from the French Foreign Legion, the wood adapted by mounting with a carved wood ball on the butt of the shoulder stock for carrying under the arm of the arab warrior mounted on a Camel. The shoulder stock also has 3 brass strengthening bands added during the modification. It has brass furniture and the metal work has even patina aged throughout. It has a block with blade foresight & flip up rear sight. It measures 39” overall with a 20 ¼” barrel. The rifled bore has staining & residue consistent with age & use . The breech is Arsenal marked with what looks like Manufacture d'Armes de Saint-Étienne (or Tulle). It is also marked 'M80’ & ‘Mle1874' model detail. It has matching numbers 15827 on the barrel and bolt. It has the correct turn down bolt and its loading and firing actions work crisply. The price for this rare carbine includes UK delivery. 1870 Belgian Military, Albini-Braendlin Front Hinge Breech 11mm Obsolete Calibre 2 Band Rifle Rifle. Sn 23664 - 23664 The Albini rifle (or Albini-Braendlin rifle) was a single-shot 11mm rifle adopted by Belgium in 1867. The action on the Albini rifle was designed by an Italian officer Augusto Albini and was perfected by an English gunsmith, Francis Braendlin. The rifle has a front-hinged, forward lifting action that has a mechanism which works together with the hammer-striker assembly. When fired, the striker bolt moves into the back of the breech block striking the firing pin and locking the block in place at ignition. Both striker and firing pin move in the same line as the rifle bore. Pulling the hammer back withdraws the striker from the breech block allowing it to be lifted on its pivot pin by means of a small fixed knob on the right side of the block. This is an example of the Albini-Braendlin rifle has a 30 ½” sighted barrel. The bore has staining & residue consistent with age & use and well defined rifling. It measures 49” overall. It has all original wood work in very good condition and brass furniture. The rifle has sling swivels. It has the correct hinged breech numbered 950 and Albini-Braendlin Patent detail. The metal has Liege inspection marks and the action plate has '1870' date. The price includes UK delivery. C1800 English Richards Flintlock 15 Bore Holster Pistol With Brass Fittings, Safety Bolt & Captive Iron Ram Rod. Sn 21393:20 - 21393:20 his is an excellent flintlock holster pistol in English form by Richards (there were several British gunmakers named Richards in London & the Provinces during the flintlock era). It is 14 ½” overall with an 8” round steel barrel. The barrels’ smooth bore is clean and has black powder proofs. It has a flat stepped lock & cock. The lock plate is crisply signed ‘Richards’ and has a safety bolt. It has a walnut full stock. It has brass fittings including trigger guard with extended tang and ram rod flute. **QUALITY** American Civil War Era Double Barrelled .44” Patched Ball Calibre Muzzle Loading Kentucky Plains Rifle By Nelson Delany Pennsylvania With Fine Cast Steel Barrels & German Silver Fittings. Sn 12466 - 12466 Nelson Delany was an American gunmaker of Reading, Berks County, Pennsylvania. He is recorded as working at Wyomissing Creek C1845 and active until C1872. This is a fine double barrelled .44 patched ball Kentucky Plains rifle made in the American Civil War era by Delany. It has a beautiful Walnut stock with figured cheek piece, German Silver fittings including a patch box with hinged lid, curved butt plate, trigger guard with extended tang and stock mounts. Its 31” barrels set side by side with flat top rib have clean bores with crisp micro rifling. The rifle measures 48" overall. The The top rib is engraved ‘Fine Cast Steel’. Both side plates are crisply marked by the American manufacturer ‘N. Delany’. The rifle has an ebonised ramrod with brass end cap, sling swivels, German Silver blade fore sight and adjustable rear sight. It has double triggers and heavy Dolphin hammers. Early 1900’s English Cogswell & Harrison London .300 Obsolete Centre Fire Calibre Breech Loading, Side Lever, Break Action Single Shot Rook / Rabbit Rifle With Octagonal Barrel. Sn 23663 - 23663 Between 1830 and 1842 Benjamin Cogswell was described as a pawnbroker at 4 Bengal Place. He then takes over at 224 Strand address & advertises himself as “Gun and Pistol warehouse” and later as gunmaker at 224 Strand. In 1863 Benjamin Cogswell (Jnr) takes Edward Harrison into partnership. Cogswell then becomes Cogswell & Harrison at 224 Strand. In 1879 the Strand premises were run in conjunction with new business managed by Edgar Harrison at 142 New Bond Street, London. The famous Cogswell & Harrison still make best quality guns today and are London’s oldest surviving gunmakers. This is a very good Rook / Rabbit rifle by Cogswell & Harrison. It has a 25 ¾” Octagonal rifled barrel. The bore has just staining consistent with age & use & well defined rifling. It has an external hammer, blade foresight, and 3 leaf graduated rear sight 50-100-150 yards with silvered aiming lines. The barrel flats are signed ‘Cogswell & Harrison’, ‘142 New Bond Street & 224 Strand London’ and has calibre detail ‘.300’. The underside of the shoulder stock has impressed number ‘12809’ prefixed by what looks like a letter ‘s’ on its side. The rifle has original undamaged walnut straight wrist stock with chequered pistol grip and chequered fore end. It has a steel butt plate. The loading and firing actions work crisply. Victorian Era Indian / Afghan North West Frontier 20 Bore Flintlock Jezail Carbine With Late 1700’s / Early 1800’s Georgian Enfield Tower Brown Bess Musket Lock, Wood Stock Ornately Decorated With Polished Bone & Brass Inlays. Sn 23666 - 23666 The Jezail was a simple, cost-efficient and often handmade muzzle-loading long arm commonly used in British India, Central Asia and parts of the Middle East. Jezails were generally handmade weapons, and consequently they widely varied in their construction. Jezails were seen as very personal weapons, and unlike the typical military weapons of the time which were very plain and utilitarian, Jezails tended to be well crafted and were usually intricately decorated. Although Jezails commonly have very long barrels, they also made carbine size variants such as ours. The firing mechanism was typically either a matchlock or a flintlock. Since flintlock mechanisms were complex and difficult to manufacture, many Jezails used the lock mechanism from captured or broken British Brown Bess & other muskets. The stocks were handmade and ornately decorated, featuring a distinctive curve which is not seen in the stocks of other muskets. The function of this curve is debated; it may be purely decorative, or it may have allowed the Jezail to be tucked under the arm and cradled tightly against the body, as opposed to being held to the shoulder like a typical musket or rifle. During the Anglo Afghan Wars the Jezail was the primary ranged weapon of Afghan warriors and was used with great effect against British troops. This is an attractive carbine size Indian flintlock Jezail with Enfield Tower Georgian Brown Bess lock. It has a 21” long sighted iron barrel with brass barrel bands. The barrel is approx. 20 bore at the flared muzzle. The smooth bore has staining and residue consistent with age. It measures 36” overall length. The English Brown bess musket lock has its original ‘Tower’ and ‘Kings Crown GR’ (George Rex) markings (illustrated). Its wood stock is intricately hand inlaid with pieces of polished bone and brass strips. It has the typical Jezail curved butt. The wood and metal have the wear and patina to be expected of a native Indian weapon of its age. As is common with these native Jezails, the action’s hammer and trigger move under spring tension but it does not cock and dry fire. The price includes UK delivery.
