SOLD SOLD (03/03) **QUALITY SPECIAL ORDER**C1820 English Durs Egg, London 15 Bore Double Damascus Barrelled Muzzle Loading Percussion Shotgun With Attractive Figured Birdseye Maple Stock. Sn 20917 - 20917 Durs Egg (1748–1831) was a Swiss-born British gunmaker, noted for his quality pistols and for his company's production of the Ferguson rifle. Egg was apprenticed in Solothurn and Paris before establishing his own business in London in 1772. He was a contemporary of Joseph Manton, Jean Samuel Pauly and the uncle of Joseph Egg. This is a quality none standard, most likely a special order ,15 Bore double barrel muzzle loading percussion shotgun by Durs Egg. It has attractive all original birdseye maple furniture with figured shoulder stock. The wrist is inlaid with void white metal escutcheon and has chequered grip panels. The shotgun with double 30”, Damascus steel barrels, has double hammers & triggers. It measures 46 ½” overall. The barrel rib is signed by the maker ‘D. Egg London’ and has a bead fore sight. Its rear sight consists of a shallow groove on top of the action. The action plates, action tang and trigger guard with extended tang and Pineapple finial have foliate engraved decoration. The action plates are also signed by the maker ‘D. Egg’ The barrels have inlaid roundels at the breech. The cocking & firing actions of the weapon work crisply. The barrel’s smooth bores have just staining consistent with age and use. The gun has an ebonised wood ram rod with brass end cap and tip which unscrews to reveal a steel worm.
