**RARE**American Civil War Era, Early Serial Number, Frank Wesson USA, 1859-1862 Patent 2nd Type .32 Rim Fire Obsolete Calibre Break Action Breech Loading Double Trigger Carbine. Sn 20692 - 20692
Frank Wesson rifles were a series of single-shot rifles manufactured between 1859 and 1888 in Worcester, Massachusetts. They were purchased by many state governments during the American Civil War, including Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Missouri, and Ohio. They were one of the first rifles to use rimfire metallic cartridges. The rifles were initially made in .22, .32, .38, and .44 rimfire. Centerfire cartridges were added later, and some rifles were capable of firing rimfire or centerfire cartridges, by altering an adjustment on the hammer. By 1859, there were a number of single-shot breech-loading rifles available to the American military and public. These included the Sharps rifle (1848), the Smith carbine (1857) and others. On all 'two-trigger' Frank Wesson models, the front trigger opened the rifle at half cock, the rear trigger fired it. 1st type Frank Wesson carbines were made between 1859-1864 and had no extractor until later 1st types which had an extractor on the left side of the action. 2nd Type Frank Wessons such as ours had the extractor moved to the right side of the action and were made 1863-1876. Our 2nd type Frank Wesson carbine is in excellent. The weapon is 39 ¼” overall length. The weapon has a 23 ¾” long, octagonal barrel. The barrel’s bore is clean with typical light rifling. The metal work is clean. It has a block & blade foresight, ‘u’ block rear sight and correct additional folding aperture peep sight. The top barrel flat is stamped ‘Frank Wesson Worcester Mass Pat’d Oct 25 1859 Nov 11 1862’. The trigger guard tang has early serial number ‘191’. The all original Walnut shoulder stock has just light bumps and bruises to be expected with age and use. The butt plate is steel. The loading and firing actions work crisply. C1840 Large English Single Barrel 11 Bore Muzzle Loading Single Barrel Percussion Sporting / Hunting Shotgun. Sn 20739:7 - 20739:7
This is a very good English single barrel shotgun made C1840. It has a 35” steel barrel & measures 52 ½” overall. The barrel’s smooth bore has just light staining consistent with age and use. The barrel has a small bead fore sight and the top of the action has a shallow groove which acts as a rear sight. It has an undamaged walnut stock with chequered panels at the wrist and fore stock. The fore stock has a polished horn end cap. A void silver disc is inlaid on the under side of the shoulder stock. It has a steel butt plate with extended tang. The action, trigger guard with extended tang & Pineapple finial & steel hammer, all have foliate engraved decoration. There are no maker marks on the shotgun. The underside of the barrel has English proofs and is marked with calibre detail ‘11’ (bore). It’s cocking and firing actions work crisply. The price includes UK delivery. **OUTSTANDING**Remington USA 1869-1893 Spanish Military Contract Rolling Block .43 Spanish (11mm) Obsolete Centre Fire Calibre Infantry Rifle With 1 x Inert Deactivated Round Of .43 Spanish Calibre Ammunition. Sn 20734 - 20734
An outstanding condition Remington USA Spanish military contract 'Rolling Block' infantry rifle in .43 Spanish (11mm) Obsolete Centre Fire Calibre. The Remington Rolling Block rifle was a breech-loading rifle produced from the mid-1860s into the early 20th century by E. Remington and Sons (later Remington Arms Company). The action was extremely strong, and could easily withstand the increased pressure of the new smokeless powders coming into use by the late 1880s. In .43 Spanish (11mm) UK obsolete calibre it was the chief service arm of the Spanish Army from 1869–1893, and was used by reserve and militia forces for many years thereafter. This Spanish Military contract has a 34 ½” barrel (50 ½” overall). The barrel shank is stamped ‘FB’ above ‘R’. The barrel's rifled bore has just light staining consistent with age and use and well defined rifling. The rifle has an external hammer, cleaning rod, sling swivels, block and blade fore sight and ladder rear sight. The all original woodwork and metal work in excellent condition and the metal has excellent blue finish. The action tang has Remington’s patents (illustrated). It's loading and firing actions work crisply. The rifle is accompanied by 1 x inert deactivated brass cased round of .43 Spanish calibre ammunition. The headstamp of the casing reads ‘.43 Spanish NDFS’. The price includes UK delivery. This is a quality 12 bore pin fire double Damascus barrelled French sporting shotgun made C1860. It is rotary under lever break action and has original Walnut furniture. The shotgun’s 27 ½” Damascus steel barrels have smooth bores. The bores have just light staining consistent with age and use. The barrel rib is signed’ Leopold Bernard Canonnier Paris’. The shotgun has double hammers & triggers, brass post fore sight and grooved action rear sight. The gun is fitted with sling swivels. It measures 46 ¾” overall. The lever, side plates, hammers and re-curving trigger guard with extended tang. The action plates are signed “Fini par Digonnet” (Finished by Digonnet) & “à Lyon”(In Lyon) (Jules Digonnet St Etienne of 1854 - 1892 street Villeboeuf in Lyon. Arms manufacturer (retailer) in Lyon and President of the trade union of the arms manufacturers of South-east at the end of XIXme century (circa 1890). **RARE**Austrian Lorenz Model 1854/66 14mm Calibre Muzzle Loading Percussion Lorenz Jagerstutzen (Sharpshooter’s) Carbine 1866 Converted To 11x58R Cartridge Werndl Breech Loading. Sn 20731 - 20731
The Austrian Lorenz rifle and carbines were used in the mid 19th century. They were used in the Second Italian War of Independence in 1859 and the Austro-Prussian War in 1866, and also featured prominently in the American Civil War. The Lorenz rifle was designed by Austrian lieutenant Joseph Lorenz. It was first approved for manufacture in 1854, and was Austria's first all-new infantry firearm since 1842. Replacing the earlier Augustin musket, the Lorenz was first distributed to Austrian soldiers in 1855. In 1866 some of the rifles and carbines were converted to Werndl breech loading weapons. Our Austrian Model 1854/66 Muzzle Loading Percussion Lorenz Jagerstutzen (Sharpshooter’s) Carbine Was Converted To Werndl Breech Loading in 1866 and is in excellent condition. It has all original metal work in the white and Beech stock with Figured cheek piece. The wood and metal work are excellent. The wood is impressed with inspection marks illustrated. It is fitted with clearing rod, sling swivels, graduated sliding bar rear sight, block and blade foresight, bayonet lug and steel butt plate. The heel of the butt plate has indistinct regiment marks. The barrel is stamped ‘LW 11129’ and the metal has other numbers and marks (illustrated). The carbine’s 24½” 2 stage barrel has well defined rifling and just light staining consistent with age and use. It measures 43 ½”overall. It's loading and firing actions work crisply. These Jagerstutzen carbines were designed to take a specific sword bayonet only designed for these weapons, The Lorenz Jager carbine Bayonet with Helical Slot (see page 13 item 19 and page 8 of The Bayonet book by Watts & White). American Civil War Era, BACON MF'G. CO, .31 Calibre, 5 Shot, Single Action Percussion Pocket Revolver (Colt’s Pocket Model Of 1849). Sn 20709:24 - 20709:24
Thomas K Bacon originally worked for the American Manhattan Firearms Company before leaving C1859 to set up his own business BACON MF'G. CO. NORWICH CONN (When Colt's Patents for revolving firearms expired in 1857 Colt Patent expired weapons were produced by a number of American manufacturers). This is an excellent, original 4” octagonal barrel .31 Calibre, 5 shot percussion revolver with drop down loading lever produced by Bacon Mfg Co C1860 similar in design to Colt’s Pocket Model of 1849. The metal work has even patina throughout with original finish. The top of the barrel is faintly marked ‘Bacon Mfg Co, Norwich Conn’. The underside of the barrel is numbered ‘449’. The barrel’s bore has light rifling and staining consistent with age and use. It has undamaged Walnut grips which have just bumps and bruises to be expected with age. The pistol's single action firing mechanism works crisply. The price includes UK delivery. NB.
