Victorian 1845 British 1844 Pattern Enfield Tower .650 Carbine Calibre Muzzle Loading Percussion Yeomanry Cavalry Carbine With Saddle Bar, Ring & Captive Steel Ram Rod. Sn 19135:6 - 19135:6 This is an original British 1844 dated Enfield Tower Yeomanry Cavalry Carbine in excellent condition. It has all original walnut full stock with brass butt plate, fore end block, ram rod pipe and trigger guard with extended tang. It has a heavy military percussion hammer. The action plate is marked Crown VR (Victoria Regina), ‘Tower’ (Enfield) and ‘1845’ (date) together with inspection mark. Its 20" barrel (36” overall) is smooth bore with staining and residue consistent with age & use. The barrel has crisp proof marks and is marked ‘Enfield 1844 (pattern)’. It has fixed rear and fore sight. It has an under barrel captive steel ramrod, steel saddle bar & ring. The weapon cocks & dry fires crisply. The price includes UK delivery. Victorian, British Lacy & Co London, Officer’s Private Purchase Enfield 1839 Pattern .750 Calibre Percussion Service Musket. Sn 16768 - 16768 John George Lacy was an English London based Gunsmith first recorded as being in business between 1811-1815. In 1815 he went into partnership with David William Witton and they traded as Lacy & Co until 1833 at various London addresses including 63 Fenchurch Street and 13 Camomile Street. In 1836 the partnership ended. In 1853 Lacy is again recorded as operating as Lacy & Co (see pages 141 & 177 of British Gunmakers Vol.1 By Brown). This is an original British Enfield 1839 Pattern muzzle loading percussion service musket by Lacy & Co. The action plate is signed by the maker ‘Lacy & Co London’. It has all original walnut wood work which has just bumps and bruises consistent with age and use, brass butt plate, brass fore end block and brass trigger guard with extended tang. The rifle has its original steel ramrod, fixed fore & rear sights & sling swivels. The barrel’s 39” barrel is stamped with proof marks. It’s smooth bore is clean. The cocking & firing actions work perfectly. The price includes UK delivery. MASSIVE, C1850 Leech & W.Ling Gunmakers Marked 8 Bore Percussion Muzzle Loading Wildfowling Bank / Punt Gun With Walnut Stock & Ramrod. A 1011 - A 1011 William John Leech was an English Gunmaker recorded as having premises at Castle Alley 1813-14 & Union Street Whitechapel C1817. William Ling (born 1793) was an English London based gunsmith recorded at a number of London addresses between 1820 and 1863 (see pages 180 & 178 of British Gunmakers Vol 1 by Brown). This is a massive percussion wildfowling gun made C1850 signed by Leech & W. Ling. This size of gun (5 feet 1inch overall length) were lay on riverbanks and sand dunes to support the heavy weight of the gun when hunting wild fowl or mounted on punts. It is 8 bore and has a 43 ½” round steel barrel. Its bore has light staining consistent with age and use. It has walnut stock with chequered wrist & polished horn fore stock cap. The wood has just light bumps and bruises consistent with age and use and is impressed ‘W.Ling’ indicating that the stock was supplied by the gunmaker William Ling. The wood has heavy brass mounts and heavy brass butt plate. The action plate and barrel block are signed ‘Leech’ (most likely William John Leech) It has a heavy steel Dolphin hammer. The barrel has a small brass bead foresight. The piece is complete with its original wood ramrod with brass end cap. Its cocking & firing actions work perfectly. **QUALITY**C1850, English Form J.S.F Botha Cape Town South Africa Retailed Double Damascus Barrelled Side By Side Muzzle Loading Percussion Combination Cape Hunting Rifle (.550 Calibre Rifled Barrel & 15 Bore Smoothbore Shotgun Barrel). Sn 18524:19 - 18524:19 This is a quality Double barrel percussion Cape rifle made C 1850. It has 31" Damascus steel barrels and measures 48 ½” overall. The barrels, set side by side have a central flat top barrel rib which has graduated markings, fixed open fore sight and graduated 6 leaf rear sights. There is also a panel signed J.S.F Botha Cape Town 1082 most likely a South African retailer. The rifle barrel is .550 calibre and the bore is clean with well defined rifling. The shotgun barrel is smooth 15 bore. The bore is clean. It has its original walnut stock with chequered panels at the fore stock and wrist. It has a steel butt plate with extended tang and trigger guard with extended tang. The metal work has nice tooled foliate decoration to the action plates, breach tang, Dolphin hammers, trigger guard and butt plate tang. It has double triggers and the weapon cocks & dry fires crisply. The stock is holed for sling swivels & has its brass tipped and capped wood ramrod. 1855 British Yeomanry Officer’s Private Purchase Barnett Gunmakers London Enfield Tower .577 Regulation Calibre Muzzle Loading, Percussion Rifled Carbine Stock Impressed ‘Barnett Gunmakers London’. Sn 20231 - 20231 The London based Barnett family of Gunsmiths are recorded at various addresses in London from 1796 to 1908 starting with Thomas Barnett at 134 Minories who later became Thomas Barnett & Sons and later John Edward Barnett at the Minories & 37 Camomile Street, ending as JE Barnett & Sons Ltd at Brewhouse Lane, Leaman Street & Duncan Street (see page 140 of Brown’s book British Gunmakers Vol.1). This is an original British 1855 dated Yeomanry Officer’s Private Purchase Enfield Tower made Carbine with stock marked by Barnett. It has all original wood stock which has just bumps and bruises to be expected and original finish to the metal work. The wood is crisply impressed with inspection marks and indistinct name possibly ‘T. Egginton’ or ‘T. Egerton’ most likely the factory stock maker and ‘Barnett Gunmakers London’ cartouche. It has a heavy military percussion hammer and the action plate is crisply stamped ‘Crown VR (Victoria Regina) & ‘Tower’ (Enfield) ‘1855’. Its 24" barrel (40” overall) has crisp rifling and has just light staining consistent with age and use. The barrel has proofs & block with blade fore sight. It has iron ramrod and sling swivels. NAPOLEONIC WARS ERA, British Enfield Tower Dragoon’s .800 Calibre, Flintlock Carbine With Saddle Bar & Correct Cut Down India Pattern Steel Ram Rod. Sn 16415:10. - Sn 16415:10 This unusual variant carbine is similar in form to Napoleonic period carbines featured in Chapter 3 of British Cavalry Carbines & Pistols Of The Napoleonic Era by Chisnall & Davies. Like the Duke of York’s Hussar carbine of 1800 featured on page 58 of the book our carbine has a cut down India pattern steel ram rod. This is a nice example of a Dragoon carbine which has the appearance of a carbine size Brown Bess musket. It has nice patina to the metal work throughout. It has a heavy military hammer fitted with flint. The lock plate is crisply stamped with Georgian crown ‘GR’ (George Rex) and by the manufacturer ‘Tower’ (Enfield). It has an 18” barrel (33 ½” overall) and is a large .800 bore. The smooth bore has staining and residue consistent with age. The barrel is stamped with black powder proofs, inspection marks and indistinct lettering. It has a post fore sight. The carbine also has brass fore end block, trigger guard with extended tang & butt plate. It has all original, undamaged Walnut furniture. The wood is impressed with what appears to be ‘I-I’ most likely an armourer’s inspector’s mark and its saddle bar has a small ordnance inspection mark. It’s cocking and firing actions work perfectly.
