C1840 English Form, Peter Wharton, 6 Bore, Single Barrel, Muzzle Loading, Percussion Shotgun. Sn 17187. - 17187 This is an excellent, muzzle loading percussion shotgun in English form made C1840. It has a 33 ½” round brown wash steel barrel and measures 50 ½” overall. The smooth bore has staining and residue consistent with age & use. The shotgun has its original walnut stock with chequered panels at the wrist & fore stock, polished horn fore end cap & steel butt plate. It has a steel lock plate signed by the maker or retailer ‘Peter Wharton’ (unknown) amongst foliate tooled decoration, Dolphin hammer, steel trigger guard with extended tang and acanthus bud finial also with tooled decoration. The shotgun is fitted with brass bead fore sight. The weapon cocks & dry fires perfectly as it should. The price for this large calibre antique shotgun worthy of further research regarding the lock signature includes UK delivery.
