**RARE**LATE WW2 'LAST DITCH' Japanese Type 30 Arisaka Rifle Bayonet By Toyoda Jidoshoki Seisakusho (Toyoda Automatic Loom Works TALW) Under Nagoya Arsenal Supervision Variation Q & Wood Scabbard With Steel Fittings. Sn 23461 - 23461
This 'Last Ditch' Japanese bayonet was made in the last stages of WW2 when Japan's resources were stretched. They were supplied with wood scabbards instead of the early war steel versions. The bayonet has wood grips, riveted on, a rectangular pommel with working steel release button and a crossguard without hooked quillon & muzzle ring. The pommel is numbered and has inspection marks (illustrated). It has a blued single edged clean blued blade with crisp Japanese Script manufacturer marks at the ricasso which is Toyoda Jidoshoki Seisakusho (Toyoda Automatic Loom Works aka TALW) under Nagoya supervision. The emergency measures olive green painted wood scabbard is undamaged and has steel chape, throat mount and 2 cord reinforcement bands in the mid section. In his book ‘Bayonets of Japan’ page 176, the author Labar describes these bayonets as scarce and illustrates a similar bayonet he describes as variation Q with the same TALW maker marks and similar scabbard as ours. This is an excellent, original as found model 1884/98 German Mauser bayonet for K98 rifles. The bayonet has undamaged grooved bakelite grips secured by correct screw bolts. The clean fullered steel blade is stamped on the ricasso with the Nazi German manufacturer name ‘F. Herder A SN’ (Friedr. Abr. Herder & Son, Solingen). The reverse has weapon number ‘1212d’ and the spine is dated ‘39’ (1939). The pommel is Waffenamt and the steel release button works correctly. It has its original steel scabbard. The throat has matching number ‘1212’, matching date ‘1939’ & matching maker name ‘F. Herder A SN’. The scabbard has one shallow dent on the front mid section typical of service wear. The ball end of the scabbard is Waffenamt. It has an excellent original riveted & stitched, brown leather frog with belt loop and retaining strap with alloy lug fastener. A scarce to find, near mint & un-issued condition Australian, Inter World War dated example of the Pattern 1907 bayonet for the SMLE rifle complete with scabbard & frog. The ricasso of the bayonet is stamped by the manufacturer 'Lithgow' & 'Shield' mark together with '1919’ date. The reverse is triple stamped with 'A' within Star Lithgow inspection marks. The blued blade is near mint undamaged with some original storage grease present. It's un-damaged wood grips are secured by the correct screw bolts. The cross guard is stamped ‘3MD’ To The 3rd Military District (Victoria) together with number ‘71381’. It is complete with its original steel mounted brown leather Scabbard. The leather is impressed by the Australian maker ‘Mangrovite’ and dated ‘43’ (1943). All leather & stitching of the scabbard are clean & intact. 1907 British WD 1903 Pattern Sword Bayonet To ‘U.C. O.T.C.’ (University College School Officer Training Corps) & Rare Land Pattern Scabbard With Integral Leather Frog. Sn 23397 - 23397
In 1902 Experimental Long and Short bayonets were trialled to succeed the 1888 pattern Bayonets. After the trial period it was decided that, when fixed to rifles, the Short version affected accuracy of fire less than the Longer heavy version. The short bladed version was approved and introduced as the '1903 Pattern' sword bayonet (see page 233 & page 391 item No.814 of the bayonet book by Watts & White). This is an excellent British Enfield 1903 Pattern Bayonet With scabbard & frog. The steel blade with medial ridge is 12” length. The double edged blade has no damage and just light staining consistent with age & it measures 6 ¾” overall length. One side of the blade has Kings Crown ER (Edward Rex) ‘1903’ (pattern) and date ’02 ’07 (February 1907). The reverse has WD Broad arrow and . below WD arrow and inspection mark. The spine of the blade also has inspection marks. There are no visible maker name on the blade. The wooden grips are in excellent undamaged condition and are secured with correct screw bolts. The pommel’s steel press button release works correctly and is stamped ‘U.C. O.T.C.’ (University College School Officer Training Corps, see page 100 of Broad Arrow by Skennerton). The scabbard is the rare to find brown leather covered Land pattern variant with steel throat mount numbered ‘21’. The scabbard’s leather frog has 2 brass rivets. The leather of the scabbard is impressed with ‘EFD’ Enfield maker mark and WD broad arrow. All material & stitching are clean & intact. The price includes UK delivery. Sn 23397 (Box 3)

**VERY RARE**GALLIPOLI ISSUE**Pre WW1 1912 British WD Enfield 1st Pattern Hook Quillon 1907 Pattern Sword Bayonet With Australian 2nd Military District (New South Wales) Mark & WD Scabbard With Matching Australian District ‘NSW’ Mark & 1908 Pattern Frog. - 23408
1st Type 1907 pattern bayonets with hook quillon were introduced in 1908, after 1913, ‘07’ Pattern bayonets were produced without hook quillon (see page 186 of British & Commonwealth Bayonets by Skennerton). Early Hook quillon bayonets were carried by Australian troops at Gallipoli. This is an excellent, original 1st type hook quillon 1907 pattern sword bayonet by Enfield With Australian marks, complete with correct, original scabbard & frog with helve carrier strap. The sword bayonet has a 17” long steel single edged blade with fullers. The blade has just light staining consistent with age and no damage to the cutting edge. The blade is stamped at the ricasso on one side with the King’s Crown ‘GR’ (George Rex), ’5 ’12 production date (May 1912) and ‘1907’ (Pattern) together with ‘EFD’ manufacturer initials (Enfield). The reverse is stamped with WD inspection marks. The bayonet has the 1st pattern hook quillon cross guard which incorporates a muzzle ring. The cross guard is stamped ‘2MD’ indicating Australian issue to the 2nd Military District which is New South Wales & weapon number ‘21324’. The grips have just light bumps and bruises to be expected & are correctly secured with two screw bolts. The bayonets steel pommel release button works correctly. The bayonet is complete with its original steel mounted leather scabbard. The scabbard has the correct rear seam and the leather has WD inspection marks. The throat mount is stamped with matching Australian Military district ‘NSW’ (New South Wales) & weapon number ‘19737’. The scabbard is fitted with its original 1908 pattern webbing frog. The frog has the correct helve strap. All the stitching and material of the scabbard, frog and carrier are intact. The price for this rare piece includes UK delivery. **RARE**1889 Dated Boer War Era British WD 3 Rivet, 1st Type, 1st Pattern, P.1888 Lee Metford Bayonet, Scabbard & Leather Frog. Sn 23305 - 23305
This is a rare 3 rivet, 1st type, 1st Pattern, P1888 Lee Metford Bayonet with scabbard and frog as used by British troops during the Boer Wars (see page 387 plate No. 801 of The Bayonet Book by Watts & White). It has its original undamaged wooden grips with the rare 3 brass rivets and oil holes in the wood grips. The bayonet is in original as found uncleaned condition. Its 12" double edged blade with medial ridge has WD inspection marks, Queen’s Crown and date 12/89 (December 1889). The pommel’s steel release button works as it should and the pommel has weapon number ‘392’. It has its original black leather scabbard with steel locket and chape. The throat mount of the scabbard is numbered 1036 and the leather has ordnance inspection marks. The scabbard is fitted with original brown leather frog with belt loop and retaining strap with brass buckle. The rear of the frog has impressed numbers (illustrated).
