British Pattern 1856 Yatahgan Sword Bayonet and Scabbard. BAYO 363 - BAYO 363 This is a good example of the 1856 sword bayonet. From 1856 the use of more machinery enabled closer tolerances to make bayonets and in doing so made the bayonets interchangeable instead of bayonets being individually fitted to a particular rifle. This bayonet has a slightly longer leaf spring for the locking bolt and was secured by a screw and not as previously with a rivet on the P 1853 bayonet. The bayonet is 716 mm long with a re-curved Yataghan blade length of 581mm. The ricasso bears a clearly stamped Kings head mark, which is the makers mark for Weyersburg Company of Solingen, Germany. To the side is a British Solingen inspectors stamp and the obverse has a sale or sold out of service mark. The press-stud and external spring locking mechanism work perfectly and the sharply beaked pommel bears a rack or issue number of ‘138’. The blade has minor signs of age related wear. The grips are made of chequered black leather held by steel pins with minor wear to the top of one side. The scabbard is made of black double stitched leather with steel top mount and chape *play in the chape and top mount and minor repair to the lower part of the scabbard on the left hand side*. British, Pattern 1860 Yatahgan Sword Bayonet And Steel Scabbard. Sn - 23238 This is a good example of the 1860 pattern yataghan sword bayonet and its steel scabbard. Due to the British being unable to produce enough blades for the bayonets, and were imported from Germany. This blade was made by the German manufacturer Weyersberg Kirschbaum & Cie AG (WKC), Solingen and carries their scales logo on the blade together with a acceptance stamp S18 on the other side. The crossguard carries the number A1758. The grips are made of chequered black leather held by steel pins. The yataghan blade is 578mm long with a muzzle ring diameter of 21.8mm which is for the increased diameter of the Pattern 1860 5 grooved sergeants rifle. The bayonet is contained in a 597mm long steel scabbard which is the correct length and has an oval frog stud mounted near the mouth. British, Martini Henry Mark 3 Sword Bayonet & Scabbard by the Wilkinson Sword Company, London. - BAYO 903 This is a nice British, Wilkinson Sword made Mark 3 sword bayonet and scabbard for the .45 Martini Henry service rifle. The bayonet is stamped on the ricasso with the queen’s crown ’89 (1989 manufacture date) WILKINSON SWORD COMPANY LONDON. The other side is stamped with the crown over WD AND arrow and an inspection mark a crown over 35 W. The top of the unfullered blade carries 2 inspection stamps. The pommel carries the number 9775. The chequered leather grips are in excellent condition with no cracks and are held on by 2 rivets. The bayonet is contained is a brass mounted black leather scabbard which is in excellent condition with good stitching. The price includes UK delivery. (Box 3). BAYO 903 £475.00 |

British, Pattern1858 Yatahgan Sword Bayonet And Scabbard. Sn - 23240 This is a good example of the 1858 pattern yataghan sword bayonet and scabbard. Due to the British being unable to produce enough blades for the bayonets, and were imported from Germany. This blade was made by the German manufacturer Alexander Coppel GmbH (Alcoso), Solingen and carries their scales logo on the blade together with WD, an acceptance stamp and a crown over 13 b acceptance stamp. The bayonet carries the number 0946 on the crossguard which is repeated on the top of the leather on the scabbard. The yataghan blade is 578mm long with a muzzle ring diameter of 21.4mm. The other side is stamped with the crown over WD, the crossed arrows, an inspection mark and R.P.10.95. The top of the unfullered blade carries 2 inspection stamps. The pommel carries the crossed out number 890. The chequered leather grips are in excellent condition with no cracks and are held on by 2 rivets. British Army Sappers, Miners & Engineers Pattern 1855, Post 185,8 Lancaster Rifle Pipeback Sword Bayonet By S&K (Schnitzler & Kirschbaum) & Scabbard. Sn - 23236 British Sappers and Miners Units adopted an oval barrel rifle in 1855 and produced their own distinctive bayonet with a Falchion or pipe backed blade. The leather scabbard had brass fittings. After 1857 the Sappers and Miners were renamed the Engineers so the blade is sometimes called the Engineers Bayonet. After removal from Engineer service they became a side arm particularly for the Medical Corps. Early examples had a leaf spring secured by a rivet but post 1858 the springs on these bayonets were secured by a screw. The British Government ordered quantities of these bayonets from German manufacturers & both the London and Birmingham trade (see pages 121-124 and item B160 of British & Commonwealth Bayonets By Skennerton). This is an excellent original example of the 1855 Lancaster bayonet. It has the correct 24 inch pipeback blade which has just light staining consistent with age, brass cross guard with muzzle ring and brass pommel with correct flat steel spring bar with post 1858 retaining screw and push button which works as it should. The blade is marked by the English maker S&K (Schnitzler & Kirschbaum) together with various illustrated inspection stamps. The righthand side of the hilt is regimentally stamped V over 2.S.M.A.C over 77 with a board acceptance struck out. (2nd South Midland Ammunition Column, Royal Field Artillery, bayonet number 77) There is also a date 9/86. There is also a date 9/86. Its original black hard leather grips are undamaged and correctly secured by rivets. The bayonet is contained in its original brass mounter black leather scabbard which is also stamped with a matching 77 on the bayonet stud. The bayonet measures 29” overall with the correct 24 inch blade. and is complete with its original leather scabbard with brass locket and large brass chape. The leather is undamaged.
