*Very Good Condition* German ‘M98’ Long Bladed Dress Bayonet with Later Etched Blade, Bayonet & Frog. BAYO 244. - BAYO 244 This is a standard other ranks M98 dress bayonet with the long 9 ¾ “ blade and working press stud. The blade is marked ‘Solingen’ to the ricasso, but there are no further markings to the blade besides the etchings. The excellent polished single edged, fullered blades are uniquely etched; one side is a Nazi eagle holding a swastika above a scroll reading ‘Fur Erinnerung an meine Dienstjeit’ (as a reminder of my service). The other side has AA 13 two Tanks and eagle with swastika. The black chequered grips are unmarked. The pommel and cross guards plating are in equally good condition. The bayonet is contained in its correct black steel scabbard and comes with a leather frog and red & white ‘Portepee’ . There are indistinct markings to the rear of the frog. German Luftwaffe ‘M98’ Sawback Dress Bayonet with Steel Scabbard and Brown Leather Frog. BAYO 243. - BAYO 243 A German M98 dress bayonet with a long 9 ¾ “ blade with the ‘W.K.C’ Knights helm trademark to the ricasso, denoting Weyersburg Kirchbaum & Cie. Solingen'. See ‘German Clamshells’ by Walker & Weinand page 48 for similar. The chrome plating on this example is in very good condition and the bayonet is contained in its correct black steel scabbard with its brown leather frog which denotes ‘Luftwaffe’ use. German Private Purchase ‘M98’ Dress Bayonet with Stag Grips by ‘Anton Wingen Jr Solingen’. BAYO 242. - BAYO 242 This is an excellent private purchase M98 dress bayonet and scabbard. Short 7 ¾” blades were carried by NCO’s while longer blades (up to 9 ¾”) were carried by enlisted personnel (see the book 'German Clamshells' page 15 by Gary L. Walker & R.J. Weinand). The dress sidearm for military and civilian uniformed formations was designated the M98 Dress Bayonet. This bayonet represented a stylised form of the S. 84/98 bayonet purchased by the individual for wear with the walkout dress uniform. This example has a rifle mortise with original felt insert and false push button release (not designed to be fitted to a rifle). It has a clean plated 7 ¾” long blade (12 ½” overall). It has the maker’s name and trademark at the ricasso (illustrated). The cross guard and pommel are nickel plated. The Stag antler grips are undamaged*. One scale is marked where it was once mounted with a Nation Hunting Association white metal badge. It has its original black metal military issue scabbard with frog stud *slight play*. *Scarce* German M1884/98 1st Model Bayonet with Long Fullers and Scabbard. BAYO 237. - BAYO 237 These bayonets were issued to Airship Battalions (Deutsche Luftstreitkräfte) in 1910, utilising blades from ‘M71/84’ bayonets. This example carries the trademark of ‘Weyersberg Kirschbaum & Co. Solingen’. There are feint unit markings to the cross guard and two Imperial inspection Marks to the pommel. A scarce bayonet in good condition with correct steel mounted black leather scabbard with unit markings of ’45. R.E.3.53.’ to the rear of the top mount. *Rare Variation*German 1871 Pattern Dress Bayonet & Brass Mounted Leather Scabbard. BAYO 236. - BAYO 236 This is an 1871 pattern bayonet with feint etching to the blade on both sides, which corresponds to item No 382 in ‘White & Watts’ The Bayonet Book page 173. However, this example has been cut down from its original blade length of 19.875” to 10.875”, but the etching continues to the tip. The ricasso carries the trademark of ‘W.K & C. (Weyersberg Kirschbaum & Co). The blade retains its original red felt pad and the brass hilt has a non-working leaf spring. The scabbard is brass mounted black leather; all of the stitching is intact. The metalwork is in good order. A rare variation of an early dress bayonet. The price includes UK delivery. BAYO 236. German M98 Dress Bayonet and Scabbard. BAYO 234. - BAYO 234 An early Nazi M98 dress bayonet and scabbard. The dress sidearm for military and civilian uniformed formations was designated the M98 Dress Bayonet. This bayonet represented a stylised form of the S. 84/98 bayonet purchased by the individual for wear with the walkout dress uniform and was worn by the mainly non-commissioned officers and enlisted personnel. This early dress bayonet has a rifle mortise and push button release. It retains the red felt in the mortise slot. This is the short NCO’s version with a 7 ¾ “blade. The polished steel blade is in good condition with minor age related marks. The grips are chequered and secured with two screw bolts *minor age related wear to one side*.
