Post 1858 British Army Sappers, Miners & Engineers 1855 Pattern Lancaster Rifle Pipeback Sword Bayonet By Reeves & Scabbard. Sn 18825 - 18825 British Sappers and Miners Units adopted an oval barrel rifle in 1855 and produced their own distinctive bayonet with a Falchion or pipe backed blade. The leather scabbard had brass fittings. After 1857 the Sappers and Miners were renamed the Engineers so the blade is sometimes called the Engineers Bayonet. After removal from Engineer service they became a side arm particularly for the Medical Corps. Early examples had a leaf spring secured by a rivet but post 1858 the springs on these bayonets were secured by a screw. The British Government ordered quantities of these bayonets from German manufacturers & both the London and Birmingham trade (see pages 121-124 and item B160 of British & Commonwealth Bayonets By Skennerton). This is an excellent original example of the 1855 Lancaster bayonet. It has the correct 24”pipeback blade which has just light staining consistent with age, brass cross guard with muzzle ring and brass pommel with correct flat steel spring bar with post 1858 retaining screw and push button which works as it should. The blade is marked by the English maker ‘Reeves’. There are no visible dates or unit marks. Its original black hard leather grips are undamaged and correctly secured by rivets. The bayonet measures 29” overall and is complete with its original leather scabbard with brass locket and large brass chape. The leather is undamaged. The price includes UK delivery. *1908 American M1905 Bayonet and Leather Covered Scabbard. BAYO 712. - BAYO 712 A very scarce American M1905 Bayonet made by ‘Springfield Arsenal’ in ‘1908’ and marked to the blade with ‘S.A.’ over a flaming grenade and ‘1908’. The other side carries a ‘U.S.’ over ‘324154’. The grips are ribbed wood held by a single screw bolt. The bayonet has a press button at the cross guard which releases the locking catch on the rifle and also holds the bayonet firmly in the scabbard. The scabbard is the early pattern of heavy leather sewn over a wooden frame with brass rivets and this has a double hook arrangement used on all subsequent American bayonets. The brown leather carries a stamped ‘R.I.A. 1907 Feb’ to the rear (Rock Island Arsenal). This is in very good condition. A real collector’s piece. The price includes U.K. delivery. *A British 1888 Pattern MkI ‘2ND Type’ Bayonet and Scabbard. BAYO 697. - BAYO 697 This is a nice British 1888 pattern Mk1, 2nd type bayonet made at ‘Enfield’ and marked to the ricasso with crown over V.R. and 1 ’91 (January 1891) The other side carries a broad arrow over W.D. and an inspection stamp. There are also two inspection stamps on the spine. The grips are wooden with an oil hole. Behind the top brass rivet and the pommel carries the number ‘16’. The bayonet is contained in its MkII scabbard with internal chape but sadly missing the frog. See Skennerton item B213 page 169. It is marked to the leather with a broad arrow ‘ 02 (1902) and two inspection stamps. The price includes U.K. delivery. BAYO 697. £295.00 |

**FALKLANDS WAR BRING BACK**Argentine Army Marked Type C Socket Bayonet For FN FAL Rifles, Scabbard & Tempex Frog. BAYO 707. - BAYO 707 These socket bayonets were used by Argentine forces in the Falklands War (See Page 22 of An Illustrated History Of Bayonets by Brayley where an Argentine Type C socket bayonet captured during the Falklands war with plastic scabbard & Tempex Frog the same as ours are illustrated). This Argentine Type C bayonet is most likely a bring back from the Falklands war. The all steel construction bayonet is in excellent condition. The tubular socket has the correct release catch ‘ears’ and has the correct cut outs to align with the vents in the rifle flash eliminator. The bayonet has a 6 ¾” long blade and measures 11 ½” overall. The blade has number ’01-79200’. The ‘01’ prefix denotes Army issue (02=Marines & 03=Air Force). There are no other manufacturer marks on the bayonet. The scabbard is the correct black plastic version. The scabbard has a frog locket. The scabbard is fitted with correct webbing frog which has 2 retaining straps with press stud fasteners marked ‘Tempex’ and steel wire belt bar. WW2 Japanese Jinsen Arsenal (Occupied Korea) Type 30 ARISAKA Rifle Bayonet & Correct Wood Scabbard With Steel Fittings. Sn 18435:1 - 18435:1 These bayonets were made late WW2 at the Jinsen arsenal in Occupied Korea. (see item LB-162 page 197 of Bayonets Of Japan by Labar where an example the same as ours with straight grips and rectangular pommel is illustrated and is described as scarce). It has the correct plain single edged blade and was manufactured without cross guard quillon. It has the correct straight wood grips secured by rivets and steel rectangular pommel with steel bayonet button that works as it should. The blade is 382mm length and has the correct late war, larger, Jinsen arsenal mark. The original late war wood scabbard has 2 bands of correct, original cord binding and retains its original drab olive paint finish. The scabbard has the correct small steel chape and throat mount with fixed strap bar. The wood has knocks bumps and bruises to be expected. There are no visible serial numbers on the bayonet or scabbard. The price includes UK delivery. £575.00 |

American M1917 Bayonet By Remington and Scabbard. Bayo 702 - BAYO 702 This is a good condition M1917 bayonet made by Remington. It is nicely stamped on the ricasso with "Remington". The other side is stamped with the 'Flaming Grenade' over "US" and the eagles head inspection mark. Blade length 17”. Total length including scabbard 22 ½”. The wooden grips have two grooves cut into them and there is an oil hole in the pommel. This example has the scarcer false edge and the scabbard is the Australian mangrovite version dated ‘42’ to the rear below the top mount. This would suggest Indian use rather than homeguard.
