French Mannlicher Berthier M1892 2nd Pattern Artillery Carbine Bayonet And Matching Numbers Scabbard. Bayo 184 - Bayo 184
A French Mannlicher Berthier M1892 2nd Pattern bayonet and scabbard. This bayonet was made to be used with the Mannlicher Berthier Artillery Carbine and is a very nice design. This is the 2nd Pattern with wood grips and with the quillon partially removed. This was due to the bayonets serial number being on the lower part of the quillon. The bayonet has a straight sword like polished blade which measures 15 3/4" long. It is fullered, it has an unusual feature of a short fuller on the top edge of the blade near the tip which aided penetration. The blade has a notch on both sides near to the crossguard which locks the bayonet in the scabbard with a click. This is the later design with smooth wood grips secured with two rivets. The muzzle ring overlaps the grips and has a notch cut in at the rear which engaged at the rifles foresight. The quillon is stamped on one side with "30213". The ricasso is stamped on one side with inspection marks. The pommel has a push release which operates as it should. The scabbard is steel and has a metal belt loop which is also stamped with a matching number "30213". This is a very nice looking bayonet. (see White & Watts 'The Bayonet Book, pages 85 & 98 item 214 and An Illustrated History Of Bayonets by Martin Brayley, Page 72-74). The price includes Uk delivery. Bayo 184

Haenel Suhl'. It has short fullers. The crossguard is stamped with the number "9.R.9.98". The scabbard is black leather with steel mounts and the top mount is stamped with "45.R.1.221.". Early Production, Pre WW1, 1909 Dated Hook Quillon 1st Type 1907 Pattern Sword Bayonet By Wilkinson Marked 'NK' To The Norfolk Regiment & 1st Pattern Scabbard With Internal Chape. Sn 12170 - 12170
The Norfolk Regiment entered the First World War with two regular, one reserve and three Territorial Force Battalions (one of cyclists), with the Regiment expanding to nineteen Battalions. The Norfolk Regiment also raised many service Battalions during the war who were a part of Lord Kitchener's New Armies. The service Battalions were created specifically for service in the war, believed, at the time, to be the War To End All Wars. The total number of men raised during the war and who served with the Norfolk Regiment amounted to 32,375 of whom 5,576 were killed and many thousands wounded. The Regiment served with distinction on the Western Front and after the war in 1931 the Regiment was renamed the Royal Norfolk Regiment. This is an excellent 1st Type, hook quillon '07' sword bayonet by Wilkinson, complete with original 1st type scabbard. These bayonets were introduced in January 1908 (see page 186 of British & Commonwealth Bayonets by Skennerton). This example was made in 1909, a year after production began. The sword bayonet has a 17" steel single edged blade which is stamped on the ricasso with the Kings crown 'ER' (Edward Rex)and '1907' (pattern) together with date '3 09' (March 1909) and 'Wilkinson' (manufacturer) . On the reverse it is stamped with inspection marks. The bayonet is fitted with its original 1st Type hook quillon cross guard which incorporates a muzzle ring. The wood grips are undamaged secured with two screw bolts. Both grips are impressed with inspection marks. The pommel is stamped 'NK' (Norfolk Regiment) above ‘R540’. It is complete with its original 1st Pattern leather scabbard with steel locket and internal chape. All the stitching and leather of the scabbard are intact. The price for this Regiment marked 1st Type bayonet and 1st Pattern scabbard includes UK delivery. Sn 12170

French M1842/59 Bayonet and Scabbard. Bayo 142 - Bayo 142
This is the modified version of the M1842 with an internal coiled spring as opposed to the leaf spring used on the M1842. The French obviously did not find this as entirely successful as later they reverted to the leaf spring. This bayonet has the curved Yataghan blade with the "Manufactured at Chattlerault in 1862-Model 1842" inscribed along the top of the blade. The crossguard is steel and the hilt brass. It is contained in its steel scabbard. A very nice condition early French bayonet which is becoming harder to find. (see White & Watts item 189 page 83 & 90). The price includes Uk delivery. Bayo 142
