French, J.B Rivolier Fils, St Etienne Percussion 12 Bore Side by Side Percussion Shotgun. Sn - 22004
This is a nice French 12 bore side by side percussion shotgun with back action locks and gold lining to the ironwork. The gun has 28 inch barrels with an overall length of 43 inches. The gun has fine damascus twist barrels, ribs and ram rod tubes. The back action locks are signed on one side J.B Rivolier Fils and the other side a St Etienne. The lockplates, butt plate, scroll trigger guard, fore end cap, barrel wedge and breech strap all have a single gold line decoration. The single barrel wedge his shaped as a seashell. The barrels and lower ribs are nicely stamped underneath with proof and makers marks, including the serial number 774. The shotgun has a one piece walnut stock and all of the fittings are made of iron. The trigger guard and hammers are of the French style and 2 sling swivels are fitted in the traditional continental style. The gun has a German silver bead foresight and the wooden ramrod has a wad extractor under the brass ferrule. The bore is clean with the usual staining and residue with use. The stock has the normal bumps and bruises with normal use. The weapon cocks & dry fires as it should. Price includes UK delivery. NB. **SUPERB**MINT BORES**Cased C1820’s Matching Pair Of English John Probin London Maker To The Prince Of Wales 22 Bore Gentleman’s Flintlock Dueling / Target Pistols, With Octagonal Damascus Steel Barrels. Sn 22059:7 - 22059:7
John Probin (b.1785) was an English London based gunmaker recorded as having premises at 29 Lisle street, Leicester Square 1826-41, 70 Strand 1842, 11 Agar Street Strand 1843-46, 115 St Martins Lane 1847-51. He was gunmaker to the Prince Of Wales (see page 194 of British Gunmakers Vol.1 by Brown). This is a superb pair of matching English dueling pistols by John Probin. The pistols are in fine condition undamaged and all original with 9 ½” octagonal Damascus steel barrels & undamaged original walnut full stocks. Each barrel is signed by the maker ‘Probin Maker to His RH The Prince Of Wales’’. The smooth bores are near mint clean & bright. The actions both have ‘v’ notch plate rear sights and the barrels have brass blade fore sights. Both pistols have Swan neck hammers fitted with flints & safety bolts. The metal work is clean and undamaged. Each lock plate is signed ‘J.Probin’. The trigger guards have engraved decoration & Pineapple finials. The breech of each pistol have gold roundel inserts. The pistol's cocking & firing actions work crisply. Both pistols have their original wood ram rods with polished horn end caps and steel worm tips. The pistols are contained in their later wood case. The case with hinged lid is lined with felt and has compartments to fit the pistols and accessories (there are no accessories with these pistols). This is an original British Ordnance Regulation Enfield Tower .650 Carbine Calibre Flintlock Light Dragoon Pistol in excellent Condition. The pistol has all original wood work with regulation brass fittings, including trigger guard with extended tang, fore end block & cudgel butt. The walnut full stock has just light bumps and bruises to be expected. The wood is impressed with stock maker’s mark ‘JW’. It has a heavy military ring neck cock fitted with flint & original wood ram rod with brass end cap. It measures 15 ½” overall with a 9” round steel barrel. The barrel has English black powder proofs. The smooth bore is near mint clean and bright. The action works crisply. **RARE**QUALITY**MINT 10 GROOVE RIFLED BORES** Circa 1660-1665 A Pair Of Early Dutch .500 Calibre Flintlock Turn Off Barrel Holster Pistols From The Armoury Collection Of The German Princely House of Hohenlohe-Langenburg / Schloss Langenburg. Sn 22059:1 - 22059:1
This is a superb Pair Of Dutch Early Flintlock Rifled Turn Off Holster Pistols From The armoury of the German Princely House of Hohenlohe-Langenburg / Schloss Langenburg ( Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Starting in medieval times and continuing until 1806, this small state was ruled by a branch of the House of Hohenlohe, first as lords, then as counts and ultimately as ruling princes of the Holy Roman Empire after 1764. The princely House of Hohenlohe-Langenburg still owns and lives in Langenburg Castle today). Provenance: These pistols were part of the Prestigious Thomas Del Mar Auction Sale 3rd December 2014 Lot 249 items from the Armoury of the Princely House of Hohenlohe-Langenburg, removed from Schloss Langenburg. Each pistol has 12 ¼” long turn off barrels and measure 22 ½” overall length. Each barrel’s bore are near mint, clean and bright with deep cut 10 groove rifling. Each muzzle has a sweated on raised ring cut with fore sight blade. The breeches are faceted changing to octagonal, engraved with panels of scrolling leaf ornament and the breech tang engraved. They have rounded locks engraved with a flower on the tail and mermaids charming a serpent within a matted panel beneath the their pans. Their cocks are retained by a screw entering through their tumblers. The cocks are engraved with bird devices and are fitted with flints. Their figured walnut stocks are excellent. Both are mounted with brass plates, one carved ‘H.L 242’ the other ‘H.L 243’ (Armoury identification plates of the House of Hohenlohe-Langenburg). The stocks have iron mounts partly German early 18th Century comprising bulbous cudgel butts drawn up to a pair of fully developed spurs, solid plain side plates with bevelled edges (indicating re-stocking in Germany during that period). The trigger guards are bow shaped widening to a splayed mid point, their finials pierced with foliage & vacant escutcheon enclosed by chiselled leaves. One pistol is struck with an unidentified mark boldly on the lower side of the breech (illustrated). The pistol’s cocking & firing actions are both crisp. Earlier versions of these pistols were carried by Royalist Officers in the English Civil War. The price for this historic pair of flintlock pistols from a renowned collection includes UK delivery. Volunteer, 2 Band Enfield P1856, .577 Calibre Percussion Rifle, Major Nuthall Patent Rifling by Thomas Turner, Birmingham. Sn - 21999
Volunteer, Enfield Pattern 1856, 2 Band percussion rifle made by Thomas Turner of Fisher Street, Birmingham. The top of the barrel is engraved MAJOR NUTHALLS PATENT and this refers to several patents taken out by William Frost Nuthall who served in the Bengal army and researched into cartridge lubrication and improving bullets in the P1842 and P1853 rifles which were put to the ordnance committees at various times during his service. This Nuthall patent refers to rounded groove rifling (Patent 1167, 10 May 1859). The lock plate has a single line border and is engraved THOMAS TURNER FISCHER STREET BIRMINGHAM . The barrel is engraved on the top in front of the rearsight MAJOR NUTHALLS PATENT. The 1100 yard rear sight is the engraved to 1000 yards but is reversed similar to the Lancaster oval bore Enfield rearsight. The rifle has six groove rifling with narrow lands and has staining and residue consistent with age and service use. The side of the bayonet bar is stamped 377 J.P. The rifle is fitted with iron furniture and a bayonet bar with an extension of the Pattern 1856 rifle. The rifle is fitted with an iron and brass chained nipple protector and the walnut stock is in excellent with only minor bumps and knocks due to service. The rifle is complete with its 1000 yard range ladder rear sight, block and blade fore sight, front sling swivel, barrel bands and cleaning rod. The rifle measures 47 ½ inches in length with a 32 inch barrel. The rifles cocking & firing actions work crisply. The price includes UK delivery. English, Moore, 10 Bore Double Barrel Side By Side, Back Action Lock Percussion Sporting Shotgun. Sn - 22005
This is a 10 bore double barrel percussion sporting shotgun by Moore. There are several gunmakers using the name Moore and this one is likely to be Moore of Chichester, Sussex. The shotgun has 39 ½ inch fine twist damascus steel barrels with a total length of 55 inches. The shotgun has back action lockplates and polphin head hammers which carry fine engraving. The barrels, set side by side have a central top barrel rib which is inlaid in gold with a shooter raising geese from a lake. The barrels have a hooked breech retained by two barrel wedges with a gold lined breech and a german silver bead foresight. The shotgun has german silver butt plate, trigger guard with a pineapple finial, fore end cap. wedge plates and a cap box in the butt which are all finely engraved, the trigger guard having a finger rest at the rear. The shotgun has double triggers, and both the wrist & fore stock have chequered panels. The shotgun has a brassed tipped wooden ramrod. The gun has its original walnut stock with fine chequering with minor bumps and to be expected with age. The price includes UK delivery. NB.
