**ORIGINAL**VINTAGE**1884 Patent Ideal Manufacturing Company New Haven CT USA No.4 Steel .44-40 Calibre Bullet Mould / Re-Loading Tool For Winchester & Marlin Lever Action .44-40 Calibre Rifles. Sn 23705 - 23705 John Barlow managed reloading tools for the Winchester Repeating Arms Co, which famously packed basic tong tools with their rifles. Barlow left Winchester to join the Ideal Tool Co. where production of innovative combination tools and bullet moulds began around 1885. The No. 4 Ideal Reloading Tool was the Classic, tool produced by Ideal. It was offered from about 1884 until about 1936. The tools cast a bullet and reloaded a Cartridge. These are very popular tools, it is complete in itself, no extra pieces to get lost or carry, it performs all the operations required, as constructed, it moulds the bullet a trifle above the standard size, which after they are lubricated can be forced through the sizing die which packs the grease firmly in the grooves, removes the surplus and makes the bullet perfectly round and of the correct diameter. The value of this is appreciated by those who make their own ammunition. This example is in very good fully functioning condition. The tool is signed by the manufacturer and has calibre & 1884 patent detail (although not numbered this is no doubt The ideal No.4 model. **ORIGINAL**Victorian Era Zulu Warrior’s Knobkerrie / Knobkerry Tropical Hard Wood Fighting War Club. Sn 23523 - 23523 An original Zulu knobkerrie War club. Also spelt knobkerrie, knopkierie or knobkerry, they are clubs used mainly in Southern and Eastern Africa. Typically they have a large knob at one end and can be used for throwing at animals in hunting or for clubbing an enemy's head in battle. A period photograph of a Zulu warrior armed with a knobkerrie & Assegai stabbing spear is illustrated in image 1. This knobkerrie war club is made from Tropical hard wood. This club measures 30 ¾” overall length and the club ball is 7” circumference. The club head has a few old small dents and a few small old stable surface cracks consistent with battle use. **ORIGINAL**Victorian Era Zulu Warrior’s Assegai Short Stabbing Spear. Sn 23526 - 23526 The Assegai is a short handled stabbing spear invented by the legendary Zulu king Shaka in the early 1800s. The weapon revolutionized tribal warfare in South Africa. Chieftains would also use their Assegai to direct the attack of Zulu warrior Impi battle formations. A period photograph of a Zulu Chieftain armed with an Assegai in fighting pose is illustrated in image 1. This Assegai measures 36” overall length. It has a 14 ¼” long iron leaf shaped blade. The blade is just over 1 ¼” wide at its broadest. Its tang is attached to its hand crafted wood shaft by a shrunken leather hide sheath. The leather has a small old stable split at the spear head tang consistent with age and use but the leather and spear head are secure. The price includes UK delivery. C1865 Belgium Lefaucheux Patent 7mm Pin Fire Obsolete Calibre 6 Shot Double Action Revolver With Ornate Tooled Decoration, Folding Trigger & Polished Bone Grips. Sn 17902 - 17902 A Belgian 6 shot 7mm Lefaucheux double action pinfire revolver made C1865, number 228357. It has a round barrel with octagonal breech 70mm (2¾”), the breech is marked “E. LEFAUCHEUX IN BREVETE”. The breech, cylinder and frame engraved with scrolls, strapwork and dogs. It has a captive ejector rod, folding trigger, and plain un-damaged polished bone grips. The pistol’s bore has light staining consistent with age & crisp rifling. It has a triangular post fore sight and the rear sight consists of a grooved hammer. SOLD SOLD (19/10) Victorian Era British Thomas Turner, Birmingham .577 Snider Obsolete Calibre Sporting Shot Gun. Sn 23702 - 23702 This antique shotgun has all original Walnut woodwork throughout with chequered panels at the wrist & fore stock. Its steel action plate is signed by the retailer Thomas Turner, Fisher Street, Birmingham. It has a chequered horn butt plate, brass trigger guard & polished horn fore end block. The breech cover with locking catch is stamped ‘Snider’s patent’. The gun chambers the obsolete calibre .577 Snider round. The shotgun measures 49 ¾” overall with a 30 ¾” barrel. The smooth bore is clean. The barrel is stamped with inspection mark & ‘25’ and has a brass bead fore sight. The hinged breech cover is numbered ‘C 591’. Its cocking and firing action work crisply. This is an antique, obsolete calibre gun and no licence is required to own this item in the UK if retained as a part of a collection or display. Sn 23702 £0.00 |

SOLD SOLD (20/10) Robert Hughes Universal Firearms Works Birmingham Side By Side Double Damascus Barrelled Muzzle Loading Percussion Rifle/ Shotgun Combination Big Game Gun (14 Smooth Bore/ .577 Calibre Rifled Bore), Irish Reg Mark ‘F173U’ (Fermanagh). - 23701 Robert Hughes was a gun and pistol maker at 22 Moland Street, Birmingham until 1872 and at 100 Moland Street from 1873. He adopted the style 'Universal Firearms Works' in 1868. His guns were well known and he was favoured in the London gun market, known for his high quality Sporting Rifles, typically sold to men traveling to Asia or Africa for big game hunting. This attractive C1870 double hammer percussion Rifle and Shotgun combination gun is the type used for hunting large game. It has 30 ½” round Damascus steel barrels and is 46 ½” overall. The rifled barrel is .577 Calibre and has a good clean bore with sharp rifling. The shotgun barrel is smooth 14 Bore which is also clean. The barrel is faintly signed ‘Robert Hughes Universal Firearms Works Birmingham. One barrel is stamped with Irish registration mark ‘F173U’ indicating that this gun was in Ireland at some point of its Victorian life (the Registration of Firearms (Ireland) Act of 22nd August 1843, provided for the granting of licences to the owners of firearms and required the arms to be marked by the Superintendent of the County Inspector of the Constabulary Force. F U mark was the designation for Fermanagh Ulster). The barrel rib is mounted with a fixed ‘v’ notch plate rear sight graduated to 100 yards and 3 leaf sights with silver aiming lines graduated, 200, 300 & 400 yards. The post from the foresight plate is absent. The action, Dolphin hammers, action tang, trigger guard with extended tang and stock mounts have quality tooled foliate decoration. The gun has double triggers. The cocking and firing actions are strong. The Walnut stock with chequered fore stock panels and steel butt plate is undamaged with just light bumps and bruises to be expected. The underside of the stock has a void inlaid silver disc and it has sling swivel lugs. The weapon has its original wood ram rod with polished horn end cap and brass tip with steel worm.
