**QUALITY**C1850, English Form J.S.F Botha Cape Town South Africa Retailed Double Damascus Barrelled Side By Side Muzzle Loading Percussion Combination Cape Hunting Rifle (.550 Calibre Rifled Barrel & 15 Bore Smoothbore Shotgun Barrel). Sn 18524:19 - 18524:19 This is a quality Double barrel percussion Cape rifle made C 1850. It has 31" Damascus steel barrels and measures 48 ½” overall. The barrels, set side by side have a central flat top barrel rib which has graduated markings, fixed open fore sight and graduated 6 leaf rear sights. There is also a panel signed J.S.F Botha Cape Town 1082 most likely a South African retailer. The rifle barrel is .550 calibre and the bore is clean with well defined rifling. The shotgun barrel is smooth 15 bore. The bore is clean. It has its original walnut stock with chequered panels at the fore stock and wrist. It has a steel butt plate with extended tang and trigger guard with extended tang. The metal work has nice tooled foliate decoration to the action plates, breach tang, Dolphin hammers, trigger guard and butt plate tang. It has double triggers and the weapon cocks & dry fires crisply. The stock is holed for sling swivels & has its brass tipped and capped wood ramrod. 1855 British Yeomanry Officer’s Private Purchase Barnett Gunmakers London Enfield Tower .577 Regulation Calibre Muzzle Loading, Percussion Rifled Carbine Stock Impressed ‘Barnett Gunmakers London’. Sn 20231 - 20231 The London based Barnett family of Gunsmiths are recorded at various addresses in London from 1796 to 1908 starting with Thomas Barnett at 134 Minories who later became Thomas Barnett & Sons and later John Edward Barnett at the Minories & 37 Camomile Street, ending as JE Barnett & Sons Ltd at Brewhouse Lane, Leaman Street & Duncan Street (see page 140 of Brown’s book British Gunmakers Vol.1). This is an original British 1855 dated Yeomanry Officer’s Private Purchase Enfield Tower made Carbine with stock marked by Barnett. It has all original wood stock which has just bumps and bruises to be expected and original finish to the metal work. The wood is crisply impressed with inspection marks and indistinct name possibly ‘T. Egginton’ or ‘T. Egerton’ most likely the factory stock maker and ‘Barnett Gunmakers London’ cartouche. It has a heavy military percussion hammer and the action plate is crisply stamped ‘Crown VR (Victoria Regina) & ‘Tower’ (Enfield) ‘1855’. Its 24" barrel (40” overall) has crisp rifling and has just light staining consistent with age and use. The barrel has proofs & block with blade fore sight. It has iron ramrod and sling swivels. The carbine also has brass fore end block, trigger guard, ram rod flutes & butt plate. The carbine cocks & dry fires crisply. The price includes UK delivery. C1867 .32 Rim Fire Break Action Rook Rifle By E.C. Green, Cheltenham. A 578. - A 578 Edwin. C. Green was an English Gun maker who in 1867 had premises at 87 High Street, Cheltenham (see page 70 of English Gun makers By Baily & Nie). This is a good quality .32 Rim Fire Break Action Rook Rifle by Green. It has a 23" octagonal barrel and measures 38" overall. The barrel's bore has crisp rifling but does have some staining. The top of the barrel is engraved 'EC Green High Street, Cheltenham'. Both sides of the action, the hammer & trigger guard with extended tang are ornately engraved with a crisp deep foliate design. Both sides of the neck of the stock are inlaid with silver mounts and the underside of the stock inlaid with a silver shield shaped escutcheon nicely engraved with stylised initials possibly 'WSG'. The stock is also fitted with a steel butt plate. The stock which is all original has a beautiful grain and finely chequered neck *use related marks to the underside*. The weapon has fixed fore and rear sights and the loading, cocking & firing actions work perfectly. The price for this rare musket in excellent condition includes UK delivery. 1795-1832 English, .44" Bore, Brass Framed Percussion Pocket Pistol With Screw Off Barrel By Patrick Of Liverpool. A 530. - A 530 Jeremiah Patrick was an English Liverpool based Gunsmith between 1795-1814 The business was then taken on by Edward Patrick between 1814-1820 & finally by Ann Patrick from 1820-1832. This is a fine .44" Bore brass framed percussion pocket pistol by Patrick. It is 6 inches overall with a 1 3/4" screw off barrel & a dolphin hammer. On the left side amongst the fine foliate decoration is engraved 'Patrick' and the right 'Liverpool' within foliate design. It has a concealed folding trigger & sliding safety catch feature. The action works as it should. It has impressed proof /inspection marks on the barrel and frame. The bag shaped wood grip is excellent & undamaged and is inlaid with a void silver escutcheon. C1840 Samuel Conway Stockport (Cheshire) 60 Bore Steel Box Lock Action Percussion Pocket Pistol With Steel Turn Off Barrel, Black Powder Proofs & Concealed Folding Trigger. Sn 18604 - 18604 Samuel Conway was an English Cheshire based Gunsmith. In 1840 he is recorded as having premises at 4 Middle Hillgate Stockport (see page 196 of Brown’s book British Gunmakers Vol.2). This is a very good percussion pocket pistol by Conway. The pistol is 6” overall with a 1 ¾” screw off smoothbore round steel barrel. The bore has staining and residue consistent with age & use (a tool is required to remove the barrel, we do not have a tool). The left side of the German Silver action is crisply engraved 'Conway' within oval & has foliate decoration. The right ’Stockport’ within oval & has foliate decoration. It has a folding concealed trigger and Dolphin hammer. The action is strong. It has crisp proof marks on the underside of the action and barrel. Its original, undamaged walnut grip has no damage. C1820 English Thomas Spencer ,London, .45” Bore Flintlock Pocket Pistol With Screw Off Barrel. Sn 12795. - Sn 12795 Thomas Spencer was an English Gunmaker recorded as having premises at Mile End, Old Town, London in 1819 and at 34 Duke Street Southwark, London in 1841 (see page 204 of British Gunmakers Volume 1 by Brown). It is 6" overall with a 1 ½” screw off barrel which is .45” at the muzzle opening. The underside of the barrel has crisp proof marks. Its steel side plates are decorated with shield and banners on both sides. The left side has the manufacturer's name 'Spencer' & the right ‘London’. It has undamaged original bag shaped wood grip and sliding safety catch feature. The hammer is fitted with a flint. The cocking & firing actions work as they should . Price includes UK delivery.
