**SCARCE**TRANSITIONAL**MINT BORE**Cased, Victorian English, Thomas Kerslake Baker’s 1852 Patent, German Silver Frame, 54 Bore Six Chamber Cap & Ball Revolving Lever Cock Percussion Pistol. Sn 21229 - 21229
Thomas Baker was born on the 25th of September, 1800. He owned a gunsmithing business at 88 Fleet Street in London, and patented a type of hammer for percussion revolver in 1852, which had a notched cocking handle attached. This hammer achieved fair popularity with British revolvers of the time. In 1857, Frederick T. Baker took over Thomas’ business and produced hunting shotguns until the twentieth century. Thomas Baker passed away in his late 70’s in 1879 (British Patent No. 3230 of 24 April 1852 for his ‘long-spur hammer’ see A.W.F. Taylerson, R.A.N. Andrews and J. Frith, The Revolver 1818-1865, 1968, p. 46, pl. 6 and pp. 68-69, fig. 8). This is a scarce cased transitional Bakers Registered 1852 Patent Six Chamber Revolving Lever Cock Pistol in excellent condition. The pistol is 11 ¼” overall length. It retains its original finish throughout, 5” octagonal to round blued barrel and cylinder, long lever action hammer marked Bakers Patent, engraved German silver frame with serial number ‘1911’ The cylinder & barrel have English black powder proofs. The pistol’s original Walnut grips are undamaged. The pistol’s cocking and firing actions are crisp. Its safety bolt works correctly at half cock to prevent firing when loading percussion caps. The barrel’s bore is near mint, clean and bright with well defined multi groove rifling. The pistol is contained in its wood case with hinged lid. The top of the lid is inlaid with a void brass roundel. The case has a brass lock (key absent). Inside the lid of the case is an original trade label with instructions for use. **SUPERB**MINT BORES**Cased C1820’s Matching Pair Of English John Probin London Maker To The Prince Of Wales 22 Bore Gentleman’s Flintlock Dueling / Target Pistols, With Octagonal Damascus Steel Barrels. Sn 22059:7 - 22059:7
John Probin (b.1785) was an English London based gunmaker recorded as having premises at 29 Lisle street, Leicester Square 1826-41, 70 Strand 1842, 11 Agar Street Strand 1843-46, 115 St Martins Lane 1847-51. He was gunmaker to the Prince Of Wales (see page 194 of British Gunmakers Vol.1 by Brown). This is a superb pair of matching English dueling pistols by John Probin. The pistols are in fine condition undamaged and all original with 9 ½” octagonal Damascus steel barrels & undamaged original walnut full stocks. Each barrel is signed by the maker ‘Probin Maker to His RH The Prince Of Wales’’. The smooth bores are near mint clean & bright. The actions both have ‘v’ notch plate rear sights and the barrels have brass blade fore sights. Both pistols have Swan neck hammers fitted with flints & safety bolts. The metal work is clean and undamaged. Each lock plate is signed ‘J.Probin’. The trigger guards have engraved decoration & Pineapple finials. The breech of each pistol have gold roundel inserts. The pistol's cocking & firing actions work crisply. Both pistols have their original wood ram rods with polished horn end caps and steel worm tips. The pistols are contained in their later wood case. The case with hinged lid is lined with felt and has compartments to fit the pistols and accessories (there are no accessories with these pistols). C1900 English J. Gane of Cattle Market, Bridgwater, Somerset 12 Bore Double Barrel Side By Side Hammerless Box Lock Breech Loading Top Lever Break Action Sporting Shotgun**UK/EU 2026 DEACTIVATION CERTIFICATED**Sn 23643 - 23643
J. Gane of Cattle Market, Bridgwater, Somerset was a provincial gunmaker and firearms dealer recorded as working between 1894 & Circa 1901 (see page 224 of British Gunmakers Vol.2 by Brown. This double barrel hammerless sporting shotgun by Gane has 29 ¾” brown wash steel barrels. The barrels, set side by side have a central flat top barrel rib and bead foresight. The rib is signed by the maker ‘J. Gane of Cattle Market, Bridgwater’. The action has Foliate decorated panels. It has its original Prince of Wales form wood stock which has just light bumps and bruises to be expected with age and use and double triggers. The wrist & fore stock have chequered panels and the fore stock has a polished horn cap and it has a ribbed polished horn butt plate. The underside of the shoulder stock has an inlaid void German Silver shield. The shotgun is number 159 (not visible externally). Deactivated to UK/EU specification in 2026 the weapon’s top lever break action opens the breech, the hammers move but do not cock & the triggers move. SOLD SOLD (22/10) **RARE**ARAB CAPTURED & MODIFIED FRENCH FORIEGN LEGION**Manufacture d'Armes de Saint-Étienne Or Tulle Arsenal Fusil Gras M80 Model 1874 (74/80) 11mm Calibre Bolt Action Carbine. Sn 23662 - 23662
In 1874 France adopted a single shot rifle, this single shot rifle was based on the French 1866 Chassepot Needle Rifle. These weapons designated Gras M80 Model 1874 (Fusil Gras M80 Modèle 1874) and the rare carbine variant were the main long arm issue for the French Military and were used for front line service until 1886, when a new rifle, the 1886 Lebel was designed. The Gras continued to be issued to French troops throughout WW1. This is a rare Gras 74/80 Carbine period North African arab captured most likely from the French Foreign Legion, the wood adapted by mounting with a carved wood ball on the butt of the shoulder stock for carrying under the arm of the arab warrior mounted on a Camel. The shoulder stock also has 3 brass strengthening bands added during the modification. It has brass furniture and the metal work has even patina aged throughout. It has a block with blade foresight & flip up rear sight. It measures 39” overall with a 20 ¼” barrel. The rifled bore has staining & residue consistent with age & use . The breech is Arsenal marked with what looks like Manufacture d'Armes de Saint-Étienne (or Tulle). It is also marked 'M80’ & ‘Mle1874' model detail. It has matching numbers 15827 on the barrel and bolt. It has the correct turn down bolt and its loading and firing actions work crisply. The price for this rare carbine includes UK delivery. 1870 Belgian Military, Albini-Braendlin Front Hinge Breech 11mm Obsolete Calibre 2 Band Rifle Rifle. Sn 23664 - 23664
The Albini rifle (or Albini-Braendlin rifle) was a single-shot 11mm rifle adopted by Belgium in 1867. The action on the Albini rifle was designed by an Italian officer Augusto Albini and was perfected by an English gunsmith, Francis Braendlin. The rifle has a front-hinged, forward lifting action that has a mechanism which works together with the hammer-striker assembly. When fired, the striker bolt moves into the back of the breech block striking the firing pin and locking the block in place at ignition. Both striker and firing pin move in the same line as the rifle bore. Pulling the hammer back withdraws the striker from the breech block allowing it to be lifted on its pivot pin by means of a small fixed knob on the right side of the block. This is an example of the Albini-Braendlin rifle has a 30 ½” sighted barrel. The bore has staining & residue consistent with age & use and well defined rifling. It measures 49” overall. It has all original wood work in very good condition and brass furniture. The rifle has sling swivels. It has the correct hinged breech numbered 950 and Albini-Braendlin Patent detail. The metal has Liege inspection marks and the action plate has '1870' date. The price includes UK delivery. his is an excellent flintlock holster pistol in English form by Richards (there were several British gunmakers named Richards in London & the Provinces during the flintlock era). It is 14 ½” overall with an 8” round steel barrel. The barrels’ smooth bore is clean and has black powder proofs. It has a flat stepped lock & cock. The lock plate is crisply signed ‘Richards’ and has a safety bolt. It has a walnut full stock. It has brass fittings including trigger guard with extended tang and ram rod flute.
