1856 Continental Military 3 Band Muzzle Loading .600 Calibre Percussion Rifle With Unusual Integral Hinged Steel Nipple Guard. Sn 16416:26 - 16416:26
This is a very good Continental Military 1856 dated Percussion 3 Band Short Rifle. It has even patina to the metal work throughout. It has a heavy military percussion hammer. The action plate is signed with partial mark ‘P. Garci ??’ below ‘Crown O’ mark, number ‘N2773’ and ‘1856’ date. The action has an unusual integral hinged nipple guard. It's 38" barrel (55” overall) has a rifled barrel which has staining & residue consistent with age & use. It has its original steel ramrod & sling swivels. The rifle also has a steel fore end block, brass trigger guard, steel barrel bands, steel butt plate with indistinct inspection mark, block fore sight and ladder rear sight. It has all original dark wood stock. The rifle cocks & dry fires as it should. The price includes UK delivery. Victorian Era 3rd Scinde Irregular Horse Enfield Pattern .700 Calibre Percussion Cavalry Carbine With captive Steel Ram Rod, Saddle Bar & Ring. Sn 16416:17 - 16416:17
The Scinde Irregular Horse was raised at Hyderabad on 8 August 1838. It was named after the province of Sind now in Pakistan, where it was raised to protect the trade route from the Bolan Pass to Sukkur on the Indus River and fight against the marauding Baluchi warriors. It later expanded to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Scinde Horse. These three regiments were absorbed into the regular forces after the Mutiny of 1857 and became the 35th Scinde Horse and the 36th Jacob's Horse. They saw active service in Northern and Central India, Persia, Afghanistan on the North West Frontier and, during World War I, where they served in France and Palestine. The two Regiments were amalgamated in 1922, as the present 14th Prince of Wales's Own Scinde Horse which served in World War II. This is an original Enfield Pattern private purchase cavalry carbine marked to the 3rd Scinde Irregular Horse. Its original wood full stock is undamaged with just bumps and bruises to be expected. The wood is impressed ‘1070’. The metal work has even patina. It has a heavy military percussion hammer and the action plate is marked ‘Scinde Irregular Horse’. Its 24" barrel (39 ½” overall) has a smooth bore which has staining & residue consistent with age. It is unsighted. It has an under barrel captive swivel steel ramrod. The carbine also has brass fore end block, trigger guard & butt plate. It is complete with sling swivels & saddle bar with ring. It cocks & dry fires. The price includes UK delivery. Scandinavian 1841 Dated .700 Calibre Muzzle Loading Percussion Infantry Musket . Sn 16415:13 - 16415:13
This is an unusual musket. It has a steel action plate date marked ‘1841’ below a ‘Crown C’ mark most likely a Danish, Norwegian or Swedish inspection mark and number 3. It has a ‘dog’ safety catch, heavy military hammer, sling swivels, heavy brass furniture and undamaged walnut stock which has just the bumps and bruises consistent with age and use. The metal work has even patina. The brass butt plate tang is stamped ‘3’. The barrel has a ‘Crown C’ mark, blade fore sight, 'v' notch plate rear sight and military bayonet bar. The smooth bore of the 40” round steel barrel is clean. The rifle measures 57” overall length. The rifle has its original steel ram rod. The weapon’s cocking and firing actions work perfectly. C1830 British East India Company (EIC) Brunswick Enfield .704” Belted Ball Calibre Muzzle Loading Percussion Rifle Volunteer Regiment Marked ‘V TB 3 25’. Sn 16415:2 - 16415:2
The Brunswick rifle was a large calibre (.704) muzzle-loading percussion rifle manufactured for the British Army by Enfield in the early 19th century. The Brunswick rifle was one of several designs submitted to replace the Baker rifle. Unlike the Baker rifle, the Brunswick rifle used a special round ball with raised ribs that fit into two spiraling grooves in the barrel. The rifle was designed to accept a sword type bayonet which mounted by use of a bayonet bar, similar to the design of that used on the Baker rifle. This is an excellent, rare to find, military specification EIC Brunswick rifle. The action plate is stamped with the EIC rampant Lion mark. It has all original woodwork with correct brass butt plate, trigger guard, ram rod mounts, patch box with hinged lid & fore end cap together with original steel ramrod & bayonet bar. It has a blade fore sight. The shoulder stock has contemporary hand carved Roman numerals 'IIIV'. The barrel measures 31” in length (47” overall). The butt plate tang is Regiment marked ‘V’ (Volunteer) ‘TB 3 25’. The barrel’s rifled bore has staining and residue consistent with age and service use. The cocking and firing actions work perfectly. This is a rare, antique percussion rifle worthy of further research regarding the regiment mark and no licence is required to own it in the UK if retained as a part of a collection or display. Large, Victorian French Polished Flattened Cow Horn Black Powder Flask For Rifles With ‘Staff Of Hermes AB’ Retailer / Manufacturer mark (A. Boche, Paris) Graduated Hinged Brass Charger & Hanging Rings. A 1014 - A 1014
This is an excellent, original, complete, French form , Victorian, Black Powder Flask for rifles . It is similar in form to chargers illustrated on page 395 item 1168-2 & page 401 item 1173 of the Powder Flask Book by Riling, both having the same form and hinged charger. It measures 10" overall length with charger closed and the polished, flattened horn flask and the flat brass base secured by 6 pins is 1 ¼” x 3 ½” . The horn has just light surface wear to be expected and has a brass throat cap with sprung brass opening lever. The throat cap has a small ‘staff of Hermes AB’ manufacturer mark (illustrated). AB is identified as A. Boche 45 Rue des Vinaigriers Paris noted as a seller of Sporting Equipment in the 1867 Exposition catalogue (see page 118 of Riling’s book) .A pivoting, hinged brass charger is secured to the throat cap. This is an excellent, 7mm calibre, 6 shot, pin fire pocket revolver. It has a 2 ¾” barrel (6 ¾” overall). It has undamaged, finely chequered gutta percha hard rubber grips. The pistol is decorated with an attractive foliate and geometric tooled design. The folding trigger, cylinder and frame and barrel block have matching numbers ‘16’. The fluted cylinder has an ‘ELG’ Liege mark and the frame has other small inspection marks. It has its original captive ejector rod and is side gate loading. It has a post fore sight.
