WWII German Army Dress ‘KS98’ Bayonet and Scabbard with Frog and Officers Dress Knot. BAYO 6278. - BAYO 6278 In Germany, army officers typically wore swords as a sign of their rank while conducting formal activities in the public view. Beginning in the last part of the 19th century, some German NCOs and enlisted soldiers, when dressed for “walking out” (leaving the barracks for non-duty activities such as going on leave) or while wearing formal parade uniforms, began to sport brass or wood handled “dress” bayonets, decorated with coloured tassels designating their individual units. This German ‘walking out’ or Parade bayonet has a bright Nickel plated hilt with ‘Birds head’ pommel, with functioning bayonet catch, and cross-guard with swept-forward quillon. The black Bakelite grips are held by two dome head plated rivets. An excellent 246 mm single edged, single fullered nickel plated blade (397mm overall length), Ricasso marked with the maker ‘A. Evertrz Solingen’, Complete in black Japanned steel scabbard which has some age related marks to it. WWWII German K98 Forresters & Luftwaffe Antler Hilted Dress Bayonet and Scabbard. 19553WII German K98 Forresters & Luftwaffe Antler Hilted Dress Bayonet and Scabbard. 19553 - 19553 It has a 9 ¾ “ single edged plated blade with sharpened back edge point. It has a narrow fuller and forte with makers stamp ‘WKC –Weyersberg Kirschbaum & Cie AG, Solingen’ Weyersberg, Kirschbaum, and Cie. was founded in 1883 with the merger of two family-owned sword manufacturing and marketing companies in Solingen, Germany: Gebruder Weyersberg, founded by Wilhem, Peter and Johann Ludwig Weyersberg in 1787 and WR Kirschbaum & Cie, founded by Wilhem Reinhordt Kirschbaum. The newly founded company used traditional techniques for sword making and each of their then employees specialised in one task in the sword making process. This was in accordance to the Division of Labour act devised by the Sword makers Guild of Solingen). It has a plated turned quillon cross guard and a plated bird beak pommel *both showing signs of use related wear* above the Antler slab grips. 1916 German Model 1898/05 G98 Mauser 'Butcher Knife' Bayonet By R. Stock & Co. Berlin Marienfelde Complete with Steel Scabbard. BAYO 6276 - BAYO 6276 A 1916 German Model 1898/05 G98 Mauser 'Butcher Knife' Bayonet By R. Stock & Co. Berlin Marienfelde complete with steel scabbard. This is a very nice condition original Imperial German Pattern 1898/05 'butchers knife' bayonet and scabbard for the Gew. 98 Mauser Rifle. This is the later model with a trimmed muzzle ring and fitted with a flash guard. The ricasso is stamped 'R. Stock & Co. Berlin Marienfelde'. The back of the blade is stamped '16' (1916) with the Imperial Crown. The blade is clean and the grips are original and un-damaged. The steel scabbard is also original and in good order with just a couple of very minor dents as to be expected. See image 267 in The Bayonet Book by Watts and White. *Rare* Portuguese Model 1885 Guedes (Kropatschek) Bayonet & Scabbard. BAYO 6274 - BAYO 6274 This is a Model 1885 Guedes bayonet, often referred to as the Kropatschek bayonet & is based on the Austrian M1873 bayonet. These bayonets are not common in the collector's market. These bayonets were originally intended for the Guedes-Castro rifle but when Portugal decided to adopt the 8mm Kropatschek bolt action rifle, the bayonet was used instead of the new rifle (see Brayley 'An Illustrated History Of Bayonets' pages 182 & 183). The fullered blade is 18 ½” length and measures 23 ½” overall. The blade has just staining consistent with age. There is a small inspection mark on the blade and ‘VV560’ on the cross guard which has the correct muzzle ring. Its slab wood grips are secure and have just bumps and bruises to be expected. The steel pommel has the correct bayonet release button which functions correctly. The steel scabbard has a frog bar & ball end and ‘U429’ imprinted. There are a few service indents to the rear of the scabbard but they do not affect its operation. The price includes UK postage. BAYO 6274. £295.00 |

Uruguay/Czech ‘VZ24’ Export Bayonet and Scabbard. BAYO 6273. - BAYO 6273 During the years after WWI, Uruguay imported the Belgian made FN 1924 rifle and standard 1924 export bayonet. The FN was later supplemented by the export version of the Czech VZ24 rifle. Uruguay being one of a number of nations to import weapons from Czechoslovakia. In Uruguayan service, the VZ24 was called the 1937 short rifle. The M1937 bayonet was very obviously of Czech origin. It was a copy of the Czech VZ24 but had a standard blade orientation with the sharpened edge on the lower side of the blade. See ‘An Illustrated History of Bayonets’ by Martin J.Brayley pages 250-1. Wooden grips held by two pins above finger guard with muzzle ring. The fullered blade is 29 ¾ cm long (overall: 43 cm) and is in good condition. Australian ‘1907’ Pattern Bayonet and Scabbard Made at ‘Lithgow Small Arms Factory’. 19480 - 19480 Lithgow 1907 bayonet was designed at the Lithgow Small Arms factory in Australia starting around 1913, just prior to WWI (The Lithgow Small Arms Factory, or Lithgow Arms, is an Australian small arms manufacturing factory located in the town of Lithgow, New South Wales. It was created by the Australian Government in 1912 to ease reliance on the British for the supply of defence materials). The Lithgow 1907 Bayonet would become Australia's staple weapon along with its counterpart, the Enfield No1 Mark III rifle. This example was made in ‘1918’ which is marked to the cross guard below the ‘Lithgow’ name with ‘2 M.D.’ which stands for 2nd Military. N.S.W. District Eastern Command. The relatively unmarked grips are stamped ‘SLAZ 42’. The stitching and furniture on the scabbard are good. The webbing frog has some scripture to the rear and is in good condition.
