British, Vietnam War Era, 4 Wall Diagrams of French Munitions. - MISC 834
Before the start of the Vietnam War, the French originally controlled Vietnam. The war commenced in 1955, British, Commonwealth and American troops being utilised. This is part of a set of 10 posters on French munitions produced by the War Office in 1961 describing the French munitions used in the war for instruction use. the posters measure 39 inches by 30 inches and have 2 reinforced eyelets at the top to enable them to be carried in a folder. All-in Fighting by W.E. Fairbairn, 1942 First Edition. - BO 486
This is a first edition of 1942 of All-in Fighting by W.E. Fairbairn which was published in 1942. The hard cover book is in good condition. The book has its original orange cloth, spine lettered in red, red title panel on front board and illustrated dust jacket. The book is illustrated with many line drawings illustrating his techniques. The author, Lieutenant Colonel William Ewart Fairbairn was in charge of the Shanghai Municipal Police Riot Squad and was their chief instructor in self-defence. He was the first foreigner living outside of Japan to be awarded a black belt degree by the Kodokan Jiu-Jitsu University, Tokyo. He also co-designed the Fairbairn-Sykes fighting knife, instructions for the use of which are contained in this manual. The book is introduced “The majority of the methods shown are drastic in the extreme. In contrast to judo, they recognise no accepted rules. They are not intended to provide amusement for all-in wrestling spectators, but for use in these dangerous times as part of national preparedness against our enemies". The poster measures 30 x 20 inches and is printed in both bottom corners ‘Diagrams based on “Infantry Training” Vol.1 and reproduced by permission of The Controller of H.M. Stationery Office’ & ‘Printed and Published by Gale & Polden Ltd., Aldershot P.2968-P’. Although the booklet by Gale & Polden is encountered, this poster is rarely seen. 1-An Illustrated Handbook of Indian Arms. This book was intended to have been one of a series, descriptive of the several sections of the India Museum, which I had hoped to see issued. Hardback-151 illustrated pages-good condition. 2- The Firearms of Tipu Sultan 1783-1799. In around 1750 Haidar Ali, a successful military adventurer, by force of arms ruler of the Kingdom of Mysore in India, and on his death in December 1782 he was succeeded by his son Tipu Sultan. Among jism ant attributes, Tipu had a love of firearms. Hardback with original cover-149 illustrated pages - good condition * pages intact but loose from the hard cover*. 3- Islamic Arms. Unlike Western arms the styles and shapes of Islamic arms did not continually change. Once an Islamic armourer had a found a satisfactory design, it was often retained for many centuries.
