This is a set of 7 books and manuals on the Model 1903 Springfield Rifle and its variations, American Krag rifle and Carbine, The .45-70 Trapdoor Springfield. There are two books on the Mosin-Nagant rifle and two books on the AK47 Kalashnikov rifles. Five of the books are by North Cape Publications, one by Greenhill Military Manuals and one by Paladin Press. All of these books are profusely illustrated and give details of both the weapons and accessories, including bayonets and all variants. The books are in excellent condition and include U.K. delivery. These three volumes were purchased from the Imperial War Museum reserve stock and have the I.W.M. withdrawn and stock stamp. The set comprises a Field Service Regulations Vol 1 dated 1930, Field Service Regulations Vol 2 dated 1935, Manual of Elementary Drill dated 1935. A volume is named to a Lt. Col. E.S.B Williams and they are worthy of further research. Original 1938 British Army Field Service Pocket Book, (From The Imperial War Museum Reserve Stock). Sn. 13084:1 - 13084:1
This is an excellent volume of the Field Service Pocket Book 1938, purchased from the Imperial War Museum reserve stock. The book contains19 pamphlets including military symbols, field engineering, intelligence, protection against gas etc, many are stamped with the Imperial War Museum rubber stamp and the red cover carries an official compliment type slip “from the Ashley Havinden Collection.” Ashley Havinden was an influential British graphic designer born in Kent in 1903. At the outbreak of W.W.2 he joined the Highgate Home Guard. Ashley designed posters for the A.R.P. and War Loan adverts for the Ministry of Information. He then joined the army camouflage section and on his promotion to Captain in 1943 was transferred to the Petroleum Warfare Department to work on ‘PLUTO’ (Pipe-Line Underwater Transportation of Oil also known as Pipe Line Under The Ocean), the fuel pipeline to the Normandy, from Shanklin to Cherbourg. This is an official publication by H.M.S.O. for the Standard British Field Gun and Howitzer of WW2 and beyond. It was introduced into service just before the war started combining high angle and direct fire, relatively high rates of fire and a reasonably lethal shell in a highly mobile piece. It remained the British Army's primary field piece well into the 1960's. This copy of the handbook is a 1st edition of 1940 and has a multitude of ammendments dated 1941 and 1942. As it was an official publication and not for general release to the press or the public, copies are scarce and highly sought after. This is a clean, tight copy of a rare book. It is stamped as withdrawn stock from the Imperial War Museum Library. This is an official H.M.S.O. copy from 1917. The handbook covers all aspects of the Howitzer including the gun itself, the carriage, sightings, Limber and ammunition. It is fully illustrated throughout with drawings and exploded pull out diagrams and is a highly detailed original copy which is rare and desirable and from an impeccable source. This is an official H.M.S.O. book dated 1914 and has come from withdrawn stock of the Imperial War Museum Library. The volume covers all aspects of the gun including the gun itself, mounting, sighting and ammunition. It is fully illustrated with detailed drawings and exploded diagrams. There are also neat handwritten notes in the text and the front and rear endpapers carry an oval rubber stamp with 'No 17 Company Royal Garrison Artillery'. There is also the same rubber stamp on the front cover with an ink inscription "Rec'd 9/10/14' Unusually this copy also has stiff board covers instead of the usual paper ones. It covers all the Airguns manufactured by the company and produced between the years 1924 to 1999 and there have been many of them. The book covers not only the airguns themselves but also sections relating to the various pellet styles and their suitability, plus the various shooting accessories that the company produced. There are a large number of original photographs in the book and lots of illustrations. The book was produced by Robert Hale, London and printed in 2001. 'Die Olympischen Spiele 1936' 2 Volume Set Of Books Covering The Olympic Games In 1936 Held In Berlin. BO 127 - BO 127
These books were issued by Cigaretten-Bilderdienst, Hamburg-Bahrenfeld and are packed with black and white and colour photographs of both the winter and summer Olympic Games. (The famous 1936 Jesse Owens Games). Owens specialised in the sprints and the long jump and was recognised in his lifetime as "perhaps the greatest and most famous athlete in track and field history". His achievement of setting three world records and tying another in less than an hour at the 1935 Big Ten track meet in Ann Arbor, Michigan, has been called ‘the greatest 45 minutes ever in sport’ and has never been equaled. At the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin, Germany, Owens won international fame with four gold medals: 100 meters, 200 meters, long jump, and 4 × 100 meter relay. He was the most successful athlete at the games and as such has been credited with "single-handedly crushing Hitler's myth of Aryan supremacy". The text is in Geman but the photographs and artwork are superb. The books are complete and in excellent condition. The books measure 12" x 10". The price includes delivery. BO 127
