WW2 U.S.M.C. Collins & Co Legitimus No.18 V-44 Combat / Survival Bowie Knife With Polished Horn Scales & Scabbard. Sn 21080 - 21080 An original WW2 United States V-44 Legitimus Combat and Survival Bowie knife by Collins & Co (see page 67 of Stephen’s book ‘Fighting Knives ‘ and plate 322 which illustrates a Collins & Co Legitimus No.18 mark the same as our example). Officially a survival knife the U.S. Marine Corps used them as a fighting knife against the Japanese. It is a large knife measuring 14” overall length and with polished horn scales secured by 5 brass rivets. The top edge of one side of each scale have an old stable chip but are totally secure. It has a brass cross guard with rounded finials. The Bowie type blade is 9 ¼” length with drop point and twin fullers. The blade has light staining consistent with age & the cutting edge is sharp with a few small old nibbles. The blade is marked with manufacturer’s mark ‘Collins & Co, Crown & trademark, Legitimus Made In USA No.18’. It is accompanied by its open top brown leather scabbard with rear riveted belt loop. **RESERVED**RESERVED** Victorian C1840 English Sheffield Trade Polished Horn Coffin Handle American Frontier Era, Expedition Bowie Belt Knife & Scabbard. Sn 21525 - 21525 This is a Coffin Handle American Frontier Era, Expedition Fighting / Utility Knife most likely made in England by the Sheffield cutlery trade for export to the USA for the expanding American Frontier market. This type of flat profile knife were ideal for belt carry. Crude but practical it has a slim 8” long Bowie blade which is 4mm thick and 1” wide at its broadest. The knife is 13 ½” overall length. This example has all the patina age and construction of a Frontier Bowie made in the early to mid 1800’s. This Bowie has a polished horn coffin handle secured by steel pins and brass finger guard. The blade has light staining consistent with age and is sharp with no damage or nicks to the cutting edge. There are no visible manufacturer or date marks on the knife. These knives are often found without scabbards, unusually our Bowie has its original leather open top scabbard which has a brass throat mount. **BROAD & STURDY**Victorian C1840 English Sheffield Trade Coffin Handle American Frontiersman, Expedition Fighting / Utility Knife. Sn 21526 - 21526 This is a Coffin Handle American Frontier Era, Expedition Fighting / Utility Knife most likely made in England by the Sheffield cutlery trade for export to the USA for the expanding American Frontier market. This type of knife were used by Pioneer Wagon Train Drivers & Riders and Hunters / Fighters in the wars against Native American Indians. Crude but large and practical it has a heavy 7 ¼” long single edged blade which is 5mm thick and 2 ½” wide at its broadest. The knife is 12 ¾” overall length. This example has all the patina age and construction of a Frontier Bowie made in the early to mid 1800’s. This substantial piece has an ebonised wood coffin handle secured around the edges by steel pins and heavy steel finger guard the underside of which has punch dot decoration. The blade has staining consistent with age and is sharp with no damage or nicks to the cutting edge. There are no visible manufacturer or date marks on the knife. The weight and size of this piece would have made it very useful for Frontiersmen as a fighting knife or hunting knife. As is typical of this type of knife it is without scabbard. *Scarce* Type 2 (End of 1943) U.S. M3 Trench Knife by ‘IMPERIAL’ Complete with its M8A1 Scabbard by P.W.H. ED 867. - ED 867 This is a superb and original Type 2 U.S. M3 Trench Knife with a M8A1 scabbard with integral frog. This Type 2 M3 fighting knife was made by IMPERIAL (Imperial Schrade Corp. was an American knife manufacturer of hunting knives, pocketknives, utility knives, and bayonets during the 20th and early 21st centuries. The consolidation of five forerunner companies, including its namesakes, the Imperial Knife Company, founded 1916, and the Schrade Cutlery Company, founded in 1904) towards the end of 1943. The M3 knife is contained in a M8A1 scabbard made by P.W.H. (Pennsylvania Working Home for the blind) and comes complete with its leg tie. The knifes pommel is stamped with the flaming grenade stamp. The type 2 knife has the usual leather washer grip which is tight with no movement *very minor movement in the finger guard*. This knife is a nice complete and rare to find combination of a blade marked M3 knife in its matching M8A1 scabbard. See M.H.Cole, ‘U.S Military Knives Bayonets and Machetes Book III’ page 97 No 12. WW2, U.S Cattaraugus 225Q ' Quartermasters' Fighting Utility Knife And Sheath. ED 886. - ED 886 During WW2 Quartermaster staff needed a heavy duty combat knife which was strong enough to open ammunition boxes and crates. The American Company Cattaraugus produced the 225Q (Q for Quartermaster), which because of their strength, soon found their way into regular service as a combat knife ( see page 67 Of U.S Military Knives By Cole & page 123 of US Military Knives Collectors Guide By Silvey & Boyd). This is a nice original example. It has a sturdy, broad single edged fullered 6 1/4" blade (10 ½” inches overall). The ricasso is crisply engraved with the 'Cattaraugus' signature legend and designation '225Q'. The blade has some areas of staining consistent with age. Its banded handle made from compressed leather washers is in good condition with just service wear to be expected. It has a steel finger guard and large oval steel pommel with flat chequered end. **UN-ISSUED CONDITION**WW2 ‘KI’ (Kinfolks) M3 Fighting Knife & M8 Scabbard With Integral Frog By BM Co (Beckwith Manufacturing Company) & ‘VP’ (Victory Plastics) & Coiled Leather Thigh Cord. ED 889 - ED 889 An excellent WW2 US M3 Fighting Knife By Kinfolks, M8 Scabbard With Integral Frog & Coiled leather thigh cord all in excellent un-issued condition. Kinfols Incorporated werer based in Little Valley new York USA, they made approx. 135,548 M3 fighting knives (see pages 95-101 of Cole’s book U.S Military Knives and page 97 item No.16 where a cross guard marking the same as ours are illustrated). The underside of the cross guard is stamped "US M3 KI (Kinfolks)". The compressed leather ringed handle and blade are undamaged. The top of the pommel has the 'ignited grenade' Frankford Arsenal mark. The knife has a blackened 6 ¾” blade with medial ridge & is complete with original green plastic M8 scabbard with integral green webbing frog which has a single retaining strap, press stud fastener and hanging bar. The upper mount of the scabbard is stamped 'USM8' & by the manufacturer 'BM Co'(Beckwith Manufacturing Company). The rear of the scabbard is marked ‘VP’ (Victory Plastics) above number ‘32’. C1962 U.S. Camillus Type 2 Jet Pilots Survival Knife and Sheath with Sharpener. 21066. - 21066 This Camillus Type 2 Jet Pilots knife was shortened to a 5” blade in 1962. It was developed by the U.S. Navys weapons bureau and Marbles Arms Corp in 1957. It was designed and engineered as a key weapon for use by the Navy Air Corps. Although Marbles Arms Corps was instrumental in developing this knife, most of those that furnished the Navy were made by Camillus Cutlery Co. Then re-designed in 1962 when the blade was shortened by one inch. See pages 147 & 148 of U.S. Military Knives by M.H.Cole. It has the correct undamaged compressed leather washer ringed handle. The riccasso has crisp marking ‘Camillus New York U.S.A.’ (Camillus Cutlery Company New York). The double edged blade is clean as is the saw toothed back edge. The hilt has two small holes which can be used to be fastened to the wrist. The oversized sheath with extra rivets is in excellent condition with the original sharpening stone present. **RARE** KA-BAR FIGHTING KNIFE CONNECTIONS** C1910 American Union Cutlery. Co. Olean, New York, Bowie Knife & KA-BAR Marked Hatchet Axe Combination With Interchangeable Blades & Correct Original Tooled Leather Scabbard. Sn 21033 - 21033 The American Union Razor Company was started in 1898 by Wallace R. Brown a grandson of Job R. Case in Tidioute Pennsylvania. The operation was soon moved to Olean, New York where Union produced Olcut, Keenwell and Ka-bar stamped knives. The company also changed its name from Union Razor to Union Cutlery Company. They continued to produce high quality cutlery until around 1977. This is an excellent, rare to find Bowie knife hatchet combination, the knife blade stamped with Union Cutlery Co mark and the hatchet marked KA-BAR. According to the Houston Price Guide to knives these stamping s were used around 1910 by Union Cutlery. The brass and steel frame hilt has steel bolsters and Ivory hue smooth celluloid scales secured by pins. One bolster has an adjustable steel screw with knurled edge. When the screw is undone it allows the hatchet and knife blades to be changed. The tangs of the knife and axe have a round recess which fits the screw thread in the hilt securely. The cutting edge of the knife blade is 4 ½” length and it has a ribbed recess section in the back edge of the blade. The blade has just light staining consistent with age. The blade is crisply marked by the manufacturer ‘Union Cutlery Co Olean, NY’. When configured as a knife, the knife measures 9 ¾” overall length. The hatchet blade has just light staining consistent with age and is marked with manufacturer detail ‘KA-BAR’ & U.S Patent. The cutting edge of the hatchet is just under 2 ½” length. When configured as a hatchet it measures 12” overall length. The knife blade edge and hatchet head blade are both sharp. The combination comes with its original leather scabbard which securely houses the combination configured as a knife with retaining strap and press stud fastener together with a separate integral pocket with flap cover and press stud fastener which houses the hatchet blade. The brown leather scabbard has heavy duty reinforced stitched and riveted edges. The leather has ornate tooled decoration to the front aspect and single belt loop to the rear. WW1 U.S. Army Model 1917 Machine Gunner’s Bolo Fighting Knife By ‘SA’ (Springfield Armoury) & Scabbard By PWH (Pennsylvania Working Home For The Blind). Sn 21024 - 21024 The model 1917 U.S. Machine Gunner’s bolo knife originated from the form of the Springfield 1903 pattern bolo bayonet, identical to the bayonet but without bayonet fittings (see page 66 plates 316 & 317 of Fighting Knives by Fred Stephens). The hilt is steel with contoured wood grips secured by 2 screw bolts. The wood has knocks bumps and bruises consistent with service use but are totally secure. It has a contoured flat steel cross guard holed for scabbard retaining catch and heavy blackened 10 ¼” bolo shaped steel blade ideal for cutting dense foliage and digging machine gun emplacements. The ricasso is stamped on one side by the maker ‘SA’ (Springfield Armoury) above Frankford Arsenal ignited grenade mark and model detail ‘1917’. The reverse has ‘U.S’ (U.S. Army) and number 37830. Its original scabbard is canvas covered wood with reinforced leather chape and brass wire hanging bar. The cover has some small stable tears and the back of the cover has some indistinct ink markings. The leather chape is impressed by the maker ‘PWH’ (Pennsylvania Working Home For The Blind). **MINT**WW2 USN MK 2 (United States Navy Mark 2) Camillus NY (Cutlery Company New York) Ka-Bar Fighting Knife With USN Mark 2 Grey Plastic Scabbard By BM Co (Beckwith Manufacturing Company & VP (Victory Plastics). Sn 20880 - 20880 This is an original, near mint, WW2 era USN Mark 2 Ka-Bar fighting knife & Scabbard (see page 78 of the book ‘United States Military Knives Collector’s Guide By Silvey & Boyd). The undamaged, grip is constructed of the correct compressed smooth leather washers. It has the correct finger guard and has a pinned steel pommel. The blade is marked on one side ‘USN MK 2’ and the reverse has manufacturer detail ‘Camillus NY’ (Cutlery Company New York). It has a clean, 7” blued, bowie blade with fullers. It is complete with its correct grey plastic scabbard with integral webbing frog and retaining strap with press stud fastener. The throat mount is stamped to the front ‘USN MK 2’ and the rear ‘NORD-8114 (stores code), BM Co (Beckwith Manufacturing Company) 1/6’ and ‘VP’ (Victory Plastics). All markings are illustrated.
