**BOER WAR MODEL**British WD Officer's Webley MK IV .455 Calibre Service Revolver With 'Birds Head' Grips & 6 Inert Deactivated Sectioned Dummy Rounds Which Can Be Loaded Into The Cylinder. Sn 22534:19 - 22534:19
The Webley MK IV .450/ .455 revolver was approved for British military service on 5th October 1899. These weapons were supplied in such large quantities to British troops engaged in the South African wars during 1899 – 1902, it was often referred to as the ‘Boer War Model’ (see page 201 of Webley Revolvers by Reinhart). This is an excellent original example of the Boer War Model Webley MK IV revolver. It has the correct 4" barrel and the original blue finish has aged to a nice plum colour in areas. The pistol has the correct undamaged 'Birds Head' shaped chequered panel grips. The frame is crisply marked ‘Webley Patents’, ‘MK IV’ and has WD inspection marks including a large Broad arrow on top of the cylinder frame. The pistol has matching serial numbers 105600 on the barrel block, underside of the frame and cylinder. The pistol is fitted with military lanyard ring. The pistol has an open over bored barrel and the cylinders have been cut and ringed. A nice feature of this pistol is that it comes with 6 inert deactivated dummy rounds which were commissioned by a previous owner and constructed so they can be loaded into the cylinder avoiding the cylinder ring obstruction and can be ejected by the pistol’s ejector mechanism for display (the original period empty .455 calibre brass shell cases have been sectioned and fitted with sectioned dummy bullets). **EXTREMELY RARE**Olive Green Gallipoli & Mespotamia Theatre Of War Painted, WW1 British WD BSA M1914 .303 Calibre Lewis Automatic Machine Gun With Stock Disc Regiment Marked ‘WRVR’, Royal Navy ‘RN’ WD Oil Container Cap, WD Drum Pan Magazine & Bipod. - 22553:1
The .303 calibre Lewis gun (or Lewis automatic machine gun) is a World War I period light machine gun that was widely used by the British Military. It was first used in combat in World War I, and continued in service with a number of armed forces through to the end of the Korean War. This is an extremely rare, excellent clean WW1 .303 Lewis Light Machine Gun. The weapon was manufactured by Birmingham Small Arms Co for Arms Automatiques Lewis Belgium and is crisply stamped accordingly (illustrated). It is also marked 'Lewis Auto Gun’ and ‘1914 pat'. It has matching numbers 51385. The gun also has several WD broad arrow ordnance inspection marks (illustrated). It is complete with original bipod with adjustable spiked legs, ladder rear sight, winged fore sight and original removable drum pan magazine. The underside of the magazine has WD marks. The metal work of the gun and bipod have original Olive Green paint as used on weapons used in the Gallipoli & Mespotamia Theatres Of War. The wood stock and pistol grip are undamaged. The stock is inlaid with brass Disc Regiment marked ’22 WRVR 95’. The gun also has a steel butt plate, sling swivels & the top of the shoulder stock has a brass screw top trap for oil, the lid of which has an integral cleaning / application brush. The brass lid is marked ‘RN’ (Royal Navy) and has WD arrow. The gun cocks and dry fires crisply, the magazine rotates correctly during the firing process and can be removed. These iconic weapons are extremely rare and this is an excellent original example worthy of further research regarding the Regiment marks. The price includes deactivation certificate & UK delivery. **RARE**Pre WW1 Dated 1910 Imperial German Army 7.92×57mm Calibre Erfurt Kar 98 Storm Troopers Rifle. D 5979 - D 5979
This is a very good condition, rare to find Erfurt Arsenal Mauser Kar 98 rifle. These short rifles were issued to German 'Storm Troopers' in WW1 for attacking and clearing trenches. The rifle measures 43 ½” overall. The breech is crisply stamped 'Crown Erfurt 1910'. It is also marked 'Kar 98' designation. The weapon is serial number 7111 and it has other un-matching numbers on the metal work & wood. It has undamaged all original woodwork and is complete with steel butt plate. The metal work is undamaged with even aged patina throughout. There are Imperial German proof / Inspection marks on the metal work. **MATCHING NUMBERS** Post 1896, Boer War British Officer’s Private Purchase, Small Frame Factory Nickel Plated Webley MK III .380 Calibre Pocket Revolver. Sn 22534:18 - 22534:18
Webley MK III .380 pocket revolver's were introduced in March 1896 ( see page 151 of Bruce & Reinhart's book Webley Revolvers). This is a factory nickel plated example retailed in South Africa, possibly a British Officer’s Boer War Private purchase weapon. The small frame pistol has a 3" barrel. The right side of the pistol is stamped with the serial number '11261' and 'Webley Patents' matching numbers are on the barrel block and cylinder. The left side of the frame is stamped with Webley 'winged bullet' legend. Above the cylinder on the frame it is stamped with 'Mark III .38'. On top of the cylinder frame it is signed by the South African retailer ‘A.P Walsh Kimberley & Johannesburg’. It's all original metal work retains its original factory nickel plate finish which has just light age related tarnish in areas and its chequered panel vulcanite grips are undamaged. INERT DEACTIVATED. This is a German WW2, 1944 dated, Patronenkasten 41, 250 round ammunition box issued with the MG34 & MG42 machine guns. The box was developed from the German First World War steel Patronenkast 15 ammunition box issued with the Maxim MG08. This ammunition box was later modified slightly for use with the MG34 and became the Patronenkasten 34. In 1941, the ammunition box was further modified to become the Patronenkasten 41 which was an improvement on the earlier model 34 in terms of durability. The ammunition box was made stiffer of square folded steel in a box shape design with its corners creating a recess and overlapping the closing latches. The case was called the Patr. Kast.41 f.M.G. (Patronen Kasted 41 fuhr Maschinen Gewehr). This is an original WW2 German Patronenkasten 41 steel ammunition box for the MG34 and 42 machineguns. The box retains most if its original green painted finish, without any dents. The boxes locking and hinging mechanisms are in good condition and lock securely. The lid is nicely stamped bdk (Schneiderwerke GmbH Saarbrucken-Werk, Sankt Ingbert) 44 (1944 date). The end of the box under the side carrying handle is stamped Patr.Kast 41 f.M.G.. The ammunition box contains a 50 round cartridge link belt complete with a starter tab and 10 inert rounds of 7.92mm ammunition. Transit Cased WW2 1942-1943 Australian WD Lithgow Vickers .303 Heavy Machine Gun With Transit Cased 1943 Dated Tripod By RT (Randwick Tramways) & MK IV Mount. Sn 22534:17 - 22534:17
This is an excellent clean WW2 dated transit cased smooth jacketed .303 Vickers Heavy Machine gun with transit cased mount & tripod. The machine gun is marked with serial number '7992' which is in the serial number range of Australian Lithgow Vickers made between 1942 & 1943 (see page 266 of ‘The Grand Old Lady Of No Man’s Land’ by Goldsmith). The gun has WD arrow and Lithgow ‘MA 42’ marks (Lithgow 1942). It is fitted with silvered flip up long range sight, additional dove tail mount for optical sight and has excellent undamaged firing handles. The machine gun retains its original finish. The gun cocks and dry fires crisply, the breech cover opens, the feed block has MA with WD arrow marks and can be removed. The tripod is stamped ‘RT’ (Randwick Tramways) No 7203 and is dated 1943. The tripod is in excellent original condition with original green paint. The gun mount is marked ‘Mount Tripod MG MK IV’. It has the correct graduated dial and inspection marks marked ‘MT .303 MK IV Dial Dir’n Mill’ (illustrated). A nice feature of this gun and mounts is that they are fitted with original canvas covers to the barrel jacket and mount chains. The price includes deactivation certificate. The British Bren Light Machine Gun was introduced in the 1930's and used extensively by British & Allied Forces throughout WW2. Bren Guns were produced predominantly in Britain, Australia & Canada. This is an excellent British WW2 dated .303 Calibre MK 1 Bren Light Machine Gun. All of its metal work & woodwork are in very good condition with even patina and it is complete with its folding bi pod, folding carry handle & original box magazine. The shoulder stock has a steel butt plate. The left side of its action is crisply stamped 'Bren Mark 1' and by the British Enfield manufacturer with their crisp combined 'ED' mark & date '1943'. The weapon is serial number 'BB2498'. The machine gun features the correct adjustable drum type rear aperture sight and folding carry handle. **VERY RARE**WW1 1916 & 1917 Dated Canadian Army M1910 .303 Calibre Straight Pull Ross Rifle Company (RRC) Rifle With WW1 1915 Ross MK II Bayonet & 1916 MK II Scabbard With Integral Frog. D 1651 - D 1651
The Ross rifle was a straight-pull bolt action .303 calibre rifle produced in Canada from 1903 until 1918. The rifles were issued to the Canadian Army. Although these rifles were proven and popular target rifles they were found unsuitable for the conditions of trench warfare and in 1916 were withdrawn from Canadian Military service making these sought after rifles now very hard to find. This is an excellent, original Canadian Army M1910 Ross Rifle. It has all original wood and metal work and it cocks and dry fires. The breech is crisply marked 'Ross Rifle Co Canada M-10 Patented'. It has a winged foresight & rear flip up sight, correct bolt, steel butt plate with trap, sling swivels and bayonet lug. The stock has just the bumps and bruises to be expected with age and service use. The wood has ink markings including Canadian WD markings and ’16 (1916) & 1917 dates (illustrated). The rifle comes with its original WW1 MK II Ross bayonet. The bayonet measures 14 ½” overall and has a clean 10” blade. The blade is the correctly officially modified version to provide greater stabbing penetration (see page 303 of British & Commonwealth Bayonets by Skennerton & Richardson). It has the correct sprung pommel button and wood slab grips. One side of the pommel bears the manufacturer's patent details ' Ross Rifle Co. Quebec, Patented 1907' the reverse is stamped ‘II' (Mark II) with WD inspection marks and '7/15' ( July 1915 date). The bayonet is complete with its leather scabbard which has an integral leather frog with a large single belt loop. The tip of the scabbard is stamped with WD arrow, 1916 date, ‘RRC (Ross Rifle Co)’ and ‘MK II’. WW1 U.S. Army Eddystone Remington & WW2 ‘Lend Lease’ British WD Home Guard Issue P17 .303 Calibre Rifle, Sling, Remington P17 Bayonet, Scabbard & Leather Frog. D 1650 - D 1650
This is an excellent WW1 & WW2 era .303 calibre P17 Rifle. These rifles used by American Forces in WW1 were refurbished in British .303 Calibre under the terms of the 'lend-lease' agreement during WW2 and issued to British Home Guard Units. The woodwork has just light bumps and bruises to be expected with age and service use & there is a small contemporary repair to the top of the shoulder stock at the butt plate. The wood has painted Military Formation markings which can be seen in the images. The metal work is undamaged. The barrel shank is stamped by the American manufacturer ‘Eddystone’ (Remington) Model Of 1917 U.S (army)’. The rifle is serial number 1020814 and has Frankford arsenal ignited grenade inspection mark. The rifle is fitted with a flip up rear sight, winged fore sight, long range volley sights (rear peep sight arm is absent). It has a steel butt plate with trap, sling swivels fitted with leather sling and bayonet lug. The weapon cocks and dry fires. The rifle comes with an original Remington P17 Bayonet with clean fullered blade which is crisply stamped at the Ricasso '1917' with the Remington Roundel. The reverse is stamped with Frankford Arsenal ignited grenade inspection mark & U.S. Army Eagle’s head army acceptance mark. It’s wood grips are in nice undamaged condition and the bayonet is complete with leather scabbard with steel mounts in similar nice condition. SOLD SOLD (LAY-AWAY 04/04) British 1903 Long Lee Enfield MK 1 Converted To MK 1* .303 Calibre Service Rifle With Charger Loading Bridge, Magazine Cut Off, Long Range Volley Sights & Sling. Sn 22534:16 - 22534:16
The magazine Lee Enfield Rifle MK 1 was the first in a long series of Lee Enfield rifles. The MK 1 was approved on 11th November 1895. Clearing rods were abolished in British service in 1899 and were made or converted to have nose caps with no accommodation for clearing rod and redesignated the MK1* (see pages 386 and 387 of The Lee Enfield Story’ by Skennerton). This .303 calibre Long Lee MK 1* service rifle is in excellent condition. The right side of the steel strap is stamped 'Crown ER' (Edward Rex), 'Enfield L.E. 1*' & dated '1903'. The rifle is correctly without clearing rod but the nose cap is holed for rod indicating that this rifle is a MK 1 period converted to MK 1*. The wood work is all original and undamaged. The stock is inlaid with brass roundel dated ‘6.16’ indicating re-issue during WW1. The metal work retains its original finish and the weapon has magazine cut off, charger loading bridge, adjustable rear sight, winged foresight and long range volley sights. The rifle is serial number 5916R and has other un-matching numbers. It is fitted with bayonet lug, sling swivels fitted with white Blanco webbing sling and brass butt plate with trap. The rifle cocks and dry fires crisply and the magazine with original retaining chain can be removed.
