C1950’s Italian Boxed 7 Shot Top Venting .22 Crimped Calibre Blank Firing ‘Sports Starting Pistol’ With Original 7 Round Magazine. MISC 1027 - MISC 1027
This is an Italian made Boxed 7 Shot .22 Crimped Calibre Blank Firing ‘Sports Starting Pistol’ With Original 7 Round Magazine. It features a sleek design with a sturdy construction. The pistol has a black finish alloy frame with the appearance of a period semi automatic pocket pistol. The frame has cast foliate decoration and ridges towards the rear of the frame to give the appearance of a semi auto pistol slide. One side of the pistol has cast lettering ‘Gun Italy’. The gun is top venting and has a viewing port on one side to indicate how many rounds are left in its original magazine which is numbered 1 to 7. This starting pistol fires .22 calibre crimped blank cartridges, which produce a loud report and smoke when fired, creating a distinct signal for the commencement of races or other events. Although these pistols are primarily associated with sporting events, they also found their way into theatrical performances and historical re-enactments. Its realistic appearance and sound effects allowed it to effectively simulate the firing of a real firearm. Its loading & firing mechanisms work correctly. The metalwork is very good with only minor loss of black finish. The plastic grips with roundels and chequered panels are excellent & undamaged. The pistol comes with its original colourful illustrated cardboard box which has instructions for use in both English and Dutch. The box has warning banners in Dutch ‘buiten het bereik van kinderen houden’ (English: Keep out of reach of children). The pistol comes with its original .22 blank calibre 7 round alloy magazine with chambers numbered 1-7 which can be viewed by the user through the pistols round counter viewing port. The price includes UK delivery. NB as a top venting blank firer no licence is required to own this item in the UK. MISC 1027 (drawers office)

*RARE* Victorian or Earlier Medieval/Italian Renaissance Form Battle Shield With Ornate Decoration. Sn 13596 The Victorian era saw a revival of interest in objects from the renaissance and ancient medieval cultures that influenced architecture, decoratio - 13596
The Victorian era saw a revival of interest in objects from the renaissance and ancient medieval cultures that influenced architecture, decoration, furnishings and art. This renewed awareness led to an intense affinity of arms and armour from those periods of history and production of quality authentic reproduction arms and armour. This is a fine medieval/ renaissance form battle shield. Its excellent quality and form indicate that it is either a Victorian reproduction or possibly a much earlier piece. The iron shield is 24” diameter with a rope effect and riveted rim. The surface of the shield elegantly curves to form a conical point which in its original form would allow the carrier to strike opponent’s, allowing the shield to be used for both defence and attack. This form also provides strength to the structure and would assist deflection of striking weapons. The whole surface of the shield has beautifully etched panels in the Italian Renaissance style featuring religious, hunting, mythical and battle iconography. The shield retains its original shape and original 4 carry strap lugs. The rear of the shield has its original leather riveted padding, and a rope carry handle secured to 2 of the lugs. The shield has even patina and just one small crack approx. 5mm length to one side of the conical boss which is only visible on close inspection and does not detract from the attractiveness of the piece. The price for this quality shield worthy of further research includes UK delivery. Sn 13596
