Russian Unfired, 57mm (57x348SR) HET (High Explosive Tracer) Quarter Sectioned Round For The S-60 Anti-Aircraft Gun & ZSU-57-2 Anti-Aircraft Self Propelled Gun. - O 1853
The Russian S-60 anti-aircraft gun which started its development in 1945 and entered service in the early 1950s. The gun was also used in a two barrelled turret in the ZSU-57-2 tank a self-propelled anti-aircraft weapon against fast low flying ground attack aircraft from its introduction in 1957. The gun which is fed by a 4 round clip is still being used by the Ukrainian Army to provide indirect artillery support. This is a quarter sectioned high explosive tracer (HET) round which has been sectioned for instructional purpose showing the internals of the round including the inert propellant and high explosive filling. The brass cartridge case is headstamped 8 over 59 (August 1958) and 2 in an oval. The steel screw in percussion primer is stamped K-W-5U and 21 on an oval. The cartridge case is stencilled in black UOR 281U 57-5 60 SW 1/87-381 07-87-6 F . The steel projectile has a wide grooved copper driving band with a grey painted finish. The projectile is stencilled round its circumference in black A-IX-2 and OR-281U. INERT DEACTIVATED. WW2 1942 Dated, Unfired American 37mm M16 (37 x 222R), HE (High Explosive) Base Fused Tank/ Anti-Tank Gun Round. - O 1852
INERT DEACTIVATED. The Americans developed the 37mm M3 gun during the late 1930s. The gun was finally approved an anti-tank gun in 1940 as the 37mm M1 anti-tank gun for use by the infantry. The gun was later used to arm the M5A1 Stuart as its main gun, the M3 Lee/Grant tank as a secondary armament and in the M8 greyhound 6 wheeled light armoured car. This is a WW2, 1942 dated unfired American 37mm M16 (37 x 222R), HE (High Explosive) base fused Tank/ Anti-Tank Gun round with its complete brass base fuse. The brass cartridge is headstamped 37MMM16 LOT79662 -3 * GL 1942 (1942 Date). The brass primer is stamped PA3 15535-63 M23A1 1942 (1942 date). The unfired high explosive projectile retains most of its original yellow paint and black stencilling. The projectile is stencilled is in black 37G SHELL M63. DEACTIVATED INERT. This is a fired French WW1 shrapnel round for the 75mm Mle 1897 Field Gun which was the main field gun in the French army in the First World War. The round is headstamped 75 DEC R S L 1848 RS. The fired shrapnel projectile retains all of its original stampings round the top of the projectile; MA.S 165-15-M-76 and is fitted with a brass 24/31 Mod 1916 time fuse. INERT DEACTIVATED. This is a scarce Austrian WW1, 1918 dated George Roth 37MM Trench Gun (3.7 cm Infanteriegeschütz M.15) High Explosive Bouncing Round (37x57R) used for short range trench warfare and later on the Italian mountain front. This gun was an infantry support gun and as such was easily hand portable during assaults. This round consists of a short brass cartridge headstamped LB-1918 (1918 date) and B.F in an oval. . The steel bouncing projectile has two copper driving bands and is stamped with a cross over 17 and EMC. DEACTIVATED INERT. RARE, British Unfired 6 Inch Mark 5 Gun (152 x 1180R) (Tiger Class Cruiser) Cartridge Case. - O 1836
DEACTIVATED INERT. This is an unfired British Navy 6 inch Mark 5 gun (152 x 1180R) brass cartridge case. The development of the Mark V gun started during the Second World War and was intended for triple Mark 25 mountings on the projected Neptune-class cruisers. In 1946, the gun was redesigned to be mounted in pairs to the new and complex Mark 26 dual purpose mounting and gun turret designed for rapid automatic fire on the projected Minotaur-class cruiser. These were to be the first British 6-inch guns in over sixty years to use brass cartridges instead of bagged charges. By the time the first two experimental weapons had been completed in 1949, the Minotaur-class had also been cancelled. The N5 gun was used in the Mark 26 mounting, on the Tiger-class cruisers, whose hulls had been built during the war and had since been totally redesigned. The Tiger class ships (comprising HMS Tiger, Lion and Blake) and were commissioned in 1959 but the weapon systems proved unreliable in use. With changes in use and requirements with the Royal Navy, the ships were finally decommissioned in 1979. The ships carried two twin 6-inch mark 5 guns in mounts, fore and aft, and together with the ships' 3-inch guns. This brass unfired rimmed straight cartridge case measures 1180mm in length and is headstamped 6 INCH MK N5 GUN NI over a crowfoot and RLB (ROYAL LABORATORIES). The base is also stencilled in black with the filling data RNP N2 2588 34LB 8OZ GD 5/ 60. The base is screwed for a screw in primer. The case mouth has brass screw thread rolled into it to hold a protective charge cap. DEACTIVATED INERT. RARE, British Unfired WW 1, 1918 Dated, Naval Vickers 3 Pounder, (47x411R) High Explosive Common Pointed Round. - O 1831
DEACTIVATED INERT. This is a rare unfired WW 1 British 3 Pounder Vickers Mark 2, (47x411R) common pointed high explosive round used in the British 3 Pounder Vickers gun and first introduced in Royal Navy service in 1905 as a more powerful gun, having twice the propellant charge to the 3 pounder Hotchkiss then inn use as a anti-torpedo gun, which was first introduced in 1886. The 3 pounder Vickers was found to be ineffective in the First World War and were removed from most larger ships from 1915. During the inter war years, these guns were used to arm Monitors, (river craft) and lightly armed ships. A 3 pounder Hotchkiss is shown for comparison which has a shorter cartridge case in the last photograph. These guns were fitted to as an anti-torpedo boat gun to Capital and smaller ships. The cartridge case is head stamped 3Pr VICKERS III K(Kynoch) 18 (1918date) a crowfoot, naval anchor LOT 15 C (Cordite Full Charge) A (the cartridge case has been annealed) and 1 in a circle. The cartridge case is fitted with a copper percussion primer. The common pointed high explosive base fused projectile is stamped above the driving band 6Pr V V.S.M. (Vickers Son & Maxim) LOACo BS (Billet Steel). The projectile has a brass left handed screw in base fuse fitted. INERT DEACTIVATED. The 13 pounder field gun was the standard horse drawn field gun of the Royal Horse Artillery during WW1 and was pulled by a team of 6 horses. The gun entered service in 1904, replacing the obsolete 15 pounder breach loading and the 12 pounder Erhardt guns as an experience of the Boer war. This is an excellent British 13 pounder shrapnel round, and although the projectile is fired it is in excellent condition. The projectile is stamped round its circumference Q.F. 18Pr and is fitted with an undamaged brass and alloy number 80 mark IV fuse. the nose of the fuse is stamped 80IV 2380 10/16 (October 1916). The cartridge case is headstamped 13Pr II 28 10 /16 (28 October 1916) a crowfoot over N and a makers monogram S C. The brass screw in percussion primer is stamped No II 5/16 (May 1916) W.E.CoLtd. This is a WW1 German 6cm S-Bts K L/21 (60x64R) boat gun high explosive (HE) round/ the guns designation was a fast firing boats gun which was used on a 2 wheeled carriage by landing parties to give artillery fire. The gun was designed by Krupps in 1898 and had a short separate loading brass cartridge case and a comparatively long projectile. The cartridge case is headstamped PATRONFABRIK KARLSHULE IX 1916 (September 1916 date) and the Marine inspection mark at the top of the . the cartridge case is fitted with a brass screw in C/12 percussion primer. The unfired steel high explosive projectile has a narrow copper driving band and is fitted with a brass and steel time and percussion nose fuse which is graduated up to 42. DEACTIVATED INERT. This is an early British, Boer War Era 37mm (37 x 94R) Pom Pom nose fused HE (High Explosive) round. The gun was introduced as the QF 1 Pounder Maxim Pom Pom in British service in the late 1880s and was used to great effect in the Boer War as did the Boers with their German made 1 pounder pom pom guns. The brass cartridge case is fitted with a copper percussion primer and is headstamped VSM within a circle (Vickers Son & Maxim monogram). The side of the projectile is stamped VSM (Vickers Son & Maxim) and the base is stamped with a crowfoot and 0LTD. The nose of the projectile is fitted with a brass Vickers percussion fuse with the correct lead sealing washer underneath.
